Hello fans and followers and welcome to the first ever Academy of League of Extraordinary Bloggers Awards show and buffet. Annually, and some may say even weekly, the representative from the accounting firm of CNC, Brian, sends a courier letter that we have to sign for and allows us to respond with the best of the best. Lets see what we have this week:
The Oscars.
As if you couldn’t figure it out from the opening paragraph of this article. This week we’re going to look at the Oscars. Not the Oscars you may have seen last week. Nor last year. We’re going to look at the Oscars that should have happened. The Geek Oscars.
Taking the major categories and allowing any comic book and/or super hero movies I feel is geeky enough to be included, despite what year it came out we present the Geek Oscars.
Best Director – Guillermo Del Toro
Yes, yes that’s right. Taking just the comic book ones here Del Toro gave us the amazing worlds of Hellboy and Hellboy II. But how many of you have forgotten that he also directed… Blade II! That right there pushes him over. Plus, you know, his non comic book based work. How many of us are losing our shit every time there’s a new picture from Pacific Rim?
Best Writer – Joss Whedon
The award that’s not just for this specific piece of work but also for everything else you’ve done award. Not only is Avengers great but give it up for Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly, comics and some framed napkin somewhere I’m sure.
Best Actor – Christopher Reeve as Superman
Not only did we believe a man could fly, we believed that everything good in the world could be epitomized in just one man. Then Superman III and IV happened but, you know, people lose bets.
Best Supporting Actress – Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow
Sure we can throw in her rolls in Ghost World and The Spirit to pad this out. But the fact is not once but twice Scarlett was in a movie (Iron Man 2 and Avengers) in which no one expected anything of her. Oh she’ll just be there to look cute on camera. Then twice she stole the show. Her one woman wrecking crew scene from Iron Man 2. Followed up by the interrogation from Avengers and baiting Loki into revealing too much information.
Best Supporting Actor – Heath Ledger as the Joker
I mean, the one actual Academy Award winner kind of has to appear on here too right?
Best Movie – Avengers
Yes, this is the best comic book movie so far. Tons of action, witty fun dialogue, easter eggs for the comic book readers, and loved by so many people it ends up being the number 3 movie of all time.
So you’re welcome to debate my picks all you want but lets see what the rest of the League had to say about this question:
