I Want To Know: Dropped Storylines in the WWE

Upon a late night/early morning discussion about NXT and the dropped story line of who the mystery attacker was, it brought up a few other dropped storylines. What happened to our Anonymous RAW GM? What happened to Tyson Kidd’s constant change in managers every week on Superstars? New Nexus disappeared because of the Summer of Punk with no resolution, they just disappeared.

I want to know anything and everything you wished you had the answers to from the WWE. I’ve admitted before to having a short memory when it comes to wrestling, but that Anonymous RAW GM thing always irritated me. It still does. It probably always will. It was such a big deal for a decent length of time. Zack Ryder coming out to disrupt Otunga and McGillicutty then it went… nowhere.

As usual I’m inviting all of you for your two sense. What dropped storylines were you most angered over? What did you predict would happen? I look forward to them all!

  1. Alex Riley/Miz feud. After their PPV match at Capitol Punishment, Riley disappeared off television, at a point in his career when he was really over. Made no sense. Really pissed me off.

  2. I absolutely rage at the fact that they dropped EVERYTHING happening on NXT: Redemption. Sure, let’s develop a brilliant show with fantastic, long running angles for EVERYBODY only to suddenly kill it off with no resolution, replace it with pointless matches, and then just coast until the WWE gets around to deciding what to actually do with “new NXT.”

I also hated how the Anonymous Raw GM just disappeared with no resolution. There was also the way the New Nexus simply ceased to exist with no explanation leading into the underwhelming “Summer of Punk.” There was also that Nexus helping Kane bury Taker that didn’t lead to anything. The Kidd Manager Search was fun times, so I didn’t like how it just died either.

  3. It probably wasn’t a storyline, really, but I miss the playful banter and great tag matches from Trent/Yoshi and Reks/Hawkins. Sure the second time moved onto other things, and Trent got hurt but still. It was great. I loved Reks and his glued xbox controller.

What ever happened to Curtis’ title shot? Did he ever get it? I don’t think so. What about Wade’s music he won? Did he get that? I’m not sure cause I’m not a Wade fan lol

What about Santino and Tamina? They were together, did stuff and then nothing?

Along the mixed storylines, what about Drew and Kelly with the touch of Trent? They could have really built something there using all 3 but they dropped the ball big time.

What about Gail and Daniel and the Bellas? I was hoping for a huge cat fight between Gail and the Bellas!

Lastly, what about Evan and Gail? He took her from Ryder I believe it was, and they were a great team, and then nothing.

  4. There are plenty of things to cite, but the most recent being NXT as a whole. It started out as redemption, I get that. Then near the 1 year mark (1 year?!) it turned into just another show. But it was great! People stopped watching Redemption but came back for “NXT”.

The storylines were telenovela style crescendos, and people started tuning back in. In some instances, it was better than Superstars. Then it lost the plot a few weeks ago.

Matt Striker, after being recovered from the kidnapping, is nowhere to be found. Reks and Hawkins were fired, then were security, but then the very next week were allowed back in the ring with no explanation as to why. Then there’s the mystery attacker. Did he (or she) suddenly give up??

All of this has led to a very boring 2 weeks. I want to think it is because they are gearing up for Full Sail or the Network launch, but at this point, why not just end the show? Make a clean-ish break point, and have done with it. It’s not what it started out to be, and it’s also not the 2nd incarnation of it. This weird 3rd incarnation is boring with no storylines. There is no entertainment. If I wanted pure wrestling, I’d tune in to ROH.

  5. Off the top of my head:
    – the Blond Bytch Project: Stevie Richards and the Blue Meanie did one promo similar in style to the Blair Witch Project. It was never mentioned again.
    – Shelton Benjamin’s mother: she was on TV for a while and then just disappeared for no reason.
    – On Heat, a woman dressed as a “ninja” was helping Raven, it was revealed to be Tori and never mentioned after that.
    – Booker T found a note that said “I Still Remember.” The writers forgot a week later.
    – Fake Razor/Diesel: they were brought in to turn Jim Ross around September. Two months later, they were just dudes with no direction, then off TV shortly there after.
    – Mankind & Goldust were tormenting Marc Mero & Sable, calling her “Mommy” for weeks. Then, nothing.

  6. If you think about it, on either Raw or Smackdown it was, can’t remember…Alberto Del Rio was talking to either HHH or John Lauranaitis and out of the blue said “I can’t wait for Vince McMahon to come back”. Shortly after that, if my memory serves me correctly, the anonymous GM began to slowly fade away. Coincidence, or Del Rio going off script and spoiling Vince as the anonymous GM? Hmm…
Why did Drew stop pursuing Kelly? What was Kharma’s deal with focusing on Kelly? And I am currently praying that they go to an ending with AJ/Punk no matter what it is.

      • This is a subject right up my alley, as you well know…I’m thinking at the moment and will have at least a few more posts coming lol!

    • They’ve at least explained that. Granted, it was about as plausible as the way they explained Show getting rehired on Saturday but not getting fired for interfering Sunday, but still…

      • They explained that as, “We were just trying to throw everybody off,” which was awful. I hate how they decided to do the Jericho thing, I’m with Joe… dropped storyline. The Show thing they tried to explain away on commentary that they had drawn up the contract, it hadn’t actually been signed until Monday.

  7. Right Solace. I’m agreeing with Joe also, except that I think it was more of change in direction than a drop. Or maybe it wasn’t even that. Jericho just kept coming out and not saying anything, which worked in some ways, and didn’t in others. So basically both results came from incompetence/ignorance on some level.

  8. The conspiracy storyline from last year…ultimately Laurinitus gained control but it was never said that he cheated Triple H out of the position. Cena embracing the hate and seemingly on a slow building storyline to change his character after his loss to The Rock,it went nowhere. Kane vs Kane..what the fuck was that? The Nexus burying The Undertaker
