WWE’s Intercontinental and US Titles = TNA TV Title?!

With the news earlier today that TNA is considering Bully Ray for a run with the World title, comparisons have been made to Ray’s former partner in Team 3D/Dudley Boys – Devon.  Brother Devon is the current TNA TV champion.  Rumor has it that TNA would love to see these former tag team champions holding their “two biggest titles”.  Also, they consider the TNA TV title to be equal to the WWE’s Intercontinental and United States championships.

No.

The TNA TV title has been around for 3 and a half years.  In that time it has already had three names.  Introduced as the Legends title by Booker T in 2008.  It was just introduced.  Booker pulled it out of a bag and said, look, there’s a new title.  Sucka!!!!  Eric Young then won it and renamed it the Global championship a year later.  Less than a year after that AJ Styles renamed it yet again into the current incarnation, the TV title.

A secondary title is meant to be used as a stepping stone to the World title.  Not always, but most of the time the winners of these titles go on to bigger things.  Recent Intercontinental and US winners include current and former World champions like: Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Christian, even John Cena.  Whereas the the TV title has yet to raise anyone.

“But Kevin, its only been around for four years.”  Yes, but with the exception of John Cena all of the above listed men have accomplished those title wins within the last four years.

It is at best comparable to the WCW TV title, the European title.  Maybe even the Hardcore title.  Or the current state of tag team titles.  It is by no means equal to the I-C or US titles.

  1. That’s what it should be, but ha no chance… I’m not sure there’s a title that TNA’s TV title can be compared to. Since the TV title is only defended at PPVs.
