I don’t even know what to expect of this book anymore. I thought for sure that I knew where the story was going and then I read this issue. Its from Marvel comics, Greg Pak and Mirko Colak.
Read for more details.
Right when I think that Johann is a horrible person this issue in the series comes along. He feels entitled and doesn’t want to sing and march along with so many of his brethren in the army. He wants to get out there and kill some people. Johann tries to join the SS and without any reservations takes a gun to a family of Jews. The gun turned out to not be loaded, but the intent was there. I felt while reading most of the book that this is where we see Johann become an irredeemable man. Then he fools us all.
Dieter, who I thought for sure was dead last issue after taking a horrible beating, joins the Nazi ranks in an attempt to destroy from within. His old friend Johann comes kicking in the door and I’m sure this time that Dieter has met his end. But then Johann says something that throws the rest of this series into confusion. “We’re going to kill Hitler.” Reading this coming out of the future Red Skull’s mouth is more shocking than hearing a similar scene on Doctor Who. The Doctor, Rory and Amy are all forces of good. Whereas the Red Skull has never been portrayed as anything other than evil.
Well, until this book. Its hard to make the Red Skull into a human. A human who the reader can sympathize with and understand. To a point I’m thinking. Hoping. Because if I still feel for the Red Skull in the finale of this story than it may be a little too well written.
