Christmas Geek Gift Ideas Day 12 – Independent Wrestling.

I know, I know.  You’re saying but not everyone likes wrestling.  I respond with, not everyone likes WWE wrestling.  Much like there are different genres of TV, movies, books, comics etc there are varieties of wrestling as well.  Read on to find out three groups sure to make you want to spend some money on DVDs.

CHIKARA   http://www.chikarapro.com/

CHIKARA is the baby of pro wrestling and comic books.  Masks, colorful characters, great story lines, teams, heroes and villains abound.  Its colorful, action packed and family friendly.  I’ve been watching their most recent show High Noon for the last week and its some of the greatest wrestling I’ve ever seen.  Not only am I seeing something new and original from every wrestler in every match.  I’m also seeing something for everyone.  When there is a cool move executed the fans chant “holy poop”.  Now I’ve taken young relatives to wrestling shows before and been embarrassed by the trash.  This is like family night out at the movies.  But better.  If you’re a parent and want to take your kids to the movies you’re out $100 for 90 minutes of maybe entertainment.  Or you could spend less than that on 3 hours of super hero live action guaranteed to be fun for the whole family.  I suggest buying the best of the year DVDs or if you want to be all caught up order the High Noon DVD today.

SHIMMER   http://www.shimmerathletes.com/

No Divas or Knockouts here.  The women in Shimmer are wrestlers first.  Ladies in other groups cant hang with these athletes.  I’ll bet anything that you will never once see a Bella twin in Shimmer.  But don’t think because this is all women that they take things light.  I’ve seen some strong style out of Cheerleader Melissa, MsChif and LuFisto that most male wrestlers couldn’t take.  Sara Del Rey may be the best wrestler on the planet, male or female.  And Portia Perez has commited one of the worst heel acts I’ve ever seen anywhere at anytime in wrestling history.  Have a daughter that likes WWE or TNA?  Buy this for her and show her some role models.

2CW   http://www.2cwwrestling.com/

Yes, my hometown independent wrestling group.  I have cheered, booed, cried and grown with wrestlers in this company.  2CW has become more than a wrestling group.  It is a community, a family even.  When J Freddie dove through the ropes and to the floor in Syracuse I thought I saw the end of his career.  But no he swerved me and everyone else there.  This is the company that fools marks.  We no longer are jaded internet fans.  We are kids again booing and cheering and living each moment as if we are in the ring as well.  For the geek that feels compelled to take apart everything, show him/her this and become a believer again.
