New Music Tuesday!: 11/14/11

It’s Tuesday! And that means it’s NEW MUSIC TUESDAY!!!

Jimmy Bro…I mean Drake (damn you Degrassi: The Next Generation) releases his sophomore album Take Care. The inspiration for this album comes from his last album Thank Me Later. Drake claims he was rushed in the process of making his first album so he wanted to slow it down and make the record that he wanted to make. Guest artists on this album include Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Rihanna, Lil Wayne and Andre 3000.

Next up is the fifth release from the indie rap/rock group Gym Class Heroes entitled The Papercut Chronicles II. Alright, where do I begin. I’ve read such terrible reviews of this album across the board; one of the big problems I have with this album is that they released FOUR singles before it was even out…that’s right FOUR, the most successful being “Stereo Hearts” featuring Adam Levine of Maroon 5. I’m apprehensive, but at least I know that there is a first Papercut Chronicles and that one is outstanding.

Ooh yay, another Glee Christmas Album. I love Glee, but they’ll do anything to make a dollar. They’re like KISS without the coffins for sale. You’ll find all of your Christmas fav’s on here that you’re already sick of hearing. Do yourself a favor, if you really want a good new Christmas release buyer She & Him’s holiday album A Very She & Him Christmas or Michael Bublé’s new release Christmas.

Having announced their break up earlier this year, R.E.M. has released a 40 track greatest hits album Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage. This compilation spans R.E.M.’s entire career and you will find selections from each album. There are three new songs as well including “Hallelujah,” “We All Go Back to Where We Belong,” and “A Month of Saturdays.” This will make a nice addition to any R.E.M. fan’s collection, the three new tracks are worth it alone.

One of the hot trends in the last decade is to re-release albums during an anniversary of some kind, but sadly no real anniversary here, but it does make for a compelling release. The super director’s cut of the album is packed with demos for the hardcore fans. There is a cheaper edition of this newly remastered album as well. For those who have never tried this album out, it’s a Rock Opera in a similar style to Tommy only ten times better.

Finally, Dia Frampton from NBC’s The Voice and the indie rock outfit Meg & Dia releases her first solo single from her upcoming album called Red. “The Broken Ones” will be available on iTunes and all other digital music services and if you enjoyed her on The Voice you will enjoy this song for sure. Alison Haislip fans may lament, but lament to this song!
