Last Friday Team Hellions was in the house to watch the Rome NY debut of 2CW! That’s right Squared Circle Wrestling traveled to central NY to put on a show. Was it good? Was it successful? Read more right now to find out!!!
I’m not part of 2cw, nor do I claim to be. However, I do pay a ridiculous amount of attention to news and posts online and I know there were many hurdles to be overcome in order to start this show. The Killer Steves had a tag team title match on the card, yet Steve Kruz is injured and his wrestling future is gray to say the least. Who would fill in? Also many of the women that 2cw usually books were getting ready for a tour of Japan. Portia Perez was making the trip to Rome, but who would be her opponent. Most of all, there were some issues with the venue and the talent. Lets attack the show chronologically.
The wonderful Eliseleusificus and I had to work, and then make an appearance at a birthday party and only then could we finally run over to the venue and get in line for the 2cw show at the John F Kennedy arena in Rome NY. We got into line a little before 8pm, and the show was scheduled to start at 8. However, I’ve been to enough wrestling shows to know that its impossible to ever start a show on time. People run late, something breaks, there’s always a problem. So even though the show is scheduled for 8 I had no doubt that we would have plenty of time. Sure enough, there’s at least 100 people still in line and that includes the FanCast crew. Well there is no way the show is starting before Viking Helmet is in his seat. We see people come in…. and then come back out to use the Port-a-potties. Oh no.
Yes, it turns out that the JFK Arena is tearing up their water pipes and fixing up the building. However, there are still events to be had and money to be made so bring on the toilet boxes! I spoke with a player on the local roller derby team, who practice in the arena, and this has been a long term problem. Everyone pees before the show and we all make the best of it.
Lets start the show!
We begin with Tommaso Ciampa vs. Isys Ephex. Isys is back in the gym and looking great! I’ve seen Tommaso in Ring of Honor and was impressed. Its the battle of the mohawks! Isys gets the win and hopefully Tommaso comes back.
Cheech took on Pete D Order. Pete has lost a lot of weight. The guy who accompanied him to the ring seems to have found it. Seriously, what is this guy’s name? There was a really weird heel/face thing going on in this match and I think the fans were a little confused at points too. Good match, but at one point even my smart mark self wasn’t sure who was playing which role.
Colin and Jimmy Olsen come out for some great heel work. Steve McKenzie goes into the match solo but Loca Vida makes the save to be his tag team partner! Its a real fun match and I’m a huge fan of everyone in the match. Los Steves lose the match but they worked their asses off trying.
J Freddie vs. Loca Vida was supposed to be next but Loca just wrestled. Freddie switches up the card and we get a title match that’s worthy of the main event spot on any wrestling show in the world. Freddie took on Eddie Edwards! Sami Callahan had car trouble and missed the show. Which is too bad because I was looking forward to seeing him live. Next time!
Freddie and Eddie put on the match of the night. I heard people all night saying they cant believe they got to see that match live. These two men made legions of new 2CW faithful fans. Fucking amazing match and if you have an opportunity to see either man live buy your ticket now!
Its intermission time! I tell the booker how much I’m loving the show so far and thank him for all of the hard work. We talk about a few things that were kept on the down low but all will be revealed soon enough!
Intermission time is also interview time! I was lucky enough to talk to Steve McKenzie, and he knew who I was! This blog and Twitter have without a doubt changed my life. If you are a blogger and not tweeting the hell out of your stuff, do so now. Or get out of the way. I have a brand to build. All apologies to Steve because I messed up where he’s been booked. I remember talking to Freddie about a road trip with Steve and about Top Rope Promotions. I thought they were connected events, but they were two separate stories. All apologies to Steve for not having my facts straight. Steve is great to talk to, and extremely under rated. I cant think of anyone who has broken himself more for 2cw. If you doubt, I have some videos of tables that wont break for you. Anyways, here’s the video of Steve and I talking!
Then I run into Colin Olsen. Colin has always been nice and we’ve briefly spoken before but never for the site. Out of all the wrestlers I’ve had the pleasure to talk to, Colin fits in surprisingly well on this site. We talk about comics, WWE, ECW, 2CW, travel and that was just what I got on camera. Off camera we talked even further and whenever we get the podcast started I’d love to have him on the show. (And Steve, and Freddie, hell everyone!) The video is broken into two parts because the camera’s batteries started to die. Thankfully I always bring back ups.
While I’m talking to Colin Delaney, the show starts back up! Crap! What do I do? I want to keep talking to Colin but I need to cover the card too. Thankfully, my girl picks up my slack and live tweets the matches.
Portia Perez vs Mistress Belmont is up next. I knew Mistress was coming to 2cw and was excited to see her, and the crowd’s reaction. Well, unfortunately this is the match when the douchbags decided to be heard. Some were rude to the women, but for the most part the crowd was into it. Portia is insanely over with the 2cw crowd. And Mistress… well just look at her! How could you not be intrigued? Then she starts to wrestle and you realize the woman has plenty of skill too. This girl needs to get more recognition from the IWC.
To read a woman’s opinion of the show and this match, read Elise’s column HERE.
Next up was Slyck Wagner Brown vs. Edward Reyes is up next. Slyck gets the win, but it was a little shady. Did Reyes slip off the ropes or did the referee shake them? I’m really not sure. But I would be excited to see a story arc where Slyck tries to win the title back with the help of a heel referee.
We end the night with the wrestlers formerly known (but not known by these names tonight due to WWE copyrights) as Road Dogg Jesse James and the Bad Ass Billy Gunn — The New Age Outlaws — team with XPac vs. First Class.
First Class gets the win and they deserve it. The former DX members were over – win or lose. First Class however are becoming the biggest act in 2CW, and they will be there every show. They need to be put over and they need to look strong on their run towards the tag team titles. I fully expect to see Kevin and Mike as tag team champions soon.
All apologies to Mike for stealing his YouTube videos but I want to put over how good he is. Big Pun is quickly rising on my Booker T inspired Fav5.
(Random fan video I found in my search. Good highlights from the card.)

Watching the Steve interview. I intend to watch them all when its not 1 am. Great stuff Mr. Helion. Steve is a good likeable personality and he’s not blind to things 🙂 About your question 5 minutes into the interview. I saw a match of goodwill that started out extremely slow and the fans were pissed…. and very disrespectful… but by 10 minutes in they won over the fans and the match still lasted an extra 10 minutes.
