Shelf Discovery #1 – A 2026 Series

Hello and welcome to hopefully the first of 52 posts every weekend in 2026. I think there’s 52 weekends in a year. That’s what DC Comics has taught me. And speaking of things that books, comics, and more have taught me – that is the inspiration for this series of posts throughout the year.

I don’t feel guilt over an overflowing pile of books to read. Nor the movies, music, magazines, and more. What I have learned over decades of accumulating (hording) is that I am meant to discover things at a certain time. That book would not have had an emotional connection for me if I had read it four years ago when I first bought it. Same with any other sort of media.

Time after time I discover something new about myself through the words of others. I find inspiration through a myriad of voices. Not necessarily the classics. The most disposable of media can hold the secrets of life just as well as other works firmly placed on pedestals.

I’m not promising what future topics will be featured throughout the year. However, I am taking a look around and see Conan, Tarzan, Alien, complete series on DVD, and countless comics. Anything can be highlighted in a given week depending on where the winds of life take me. Some might even take up multiple weeks.

Finally, the items on the shelves have to come from somewhere. Some weeks will feature the journeys. I’ve lost hours in so many bookstores, comic shops, thrift stores, and more throughout the state. From big cities to small towns there have been so many tales to be told and truths to discover.

And, as the first week has already shown me, while I strive to get this out on the weekend some weeks are busier than others and require extra time.

So tune in next weekend (hopefully) to read all about what I have discovered first.
