Well, we’re finally here. For many months the At Odds with Wrestling podcast has been watching all 13 episodes of the short lived Wrestlicious show. I have been tagging along as a viewing and writing exercise. While my schedule and commitments have changed over the past few months I promised myself to see this through. Now here we’ve arrived at the last episode. And, sadly, this series goes out with a whimper.
The episode starts with a recap of previous episodes when Glory and Toni the Top had their fights. Fights which took place years ago in the studio, but we’re all pretending it all took place just a couple weeks ago.
“Ima Mark”, the random fan from the last few weeks, asks Jimmy Hart how people would know she’s a wrestling fan. If she wears an Austin 3:16 shirt in her school photo! Which, sadly, kids did do back then.
Toni the Top and Autumn Frost show up at JV’s crib so he can insult them.
Felony is in “jail” and tells a bad joke.
Tonight’s Takedown Spotlight is Bandita and, wow, damn. Maybe the best Spotlight of the series. Bandita should have had more screen time.
“Voodoo You Love” has a bad arm and leg joke.
WWE and TNA know great talent when they see it, years after the original Wrestlicious recordings. People can’t sit at home and wait for the episodes to air so they can work somewhere else. What is this? Lucia Underground?
Jimmy’s Angels – Viper, Cobra, and Anaconda? Did we see them before? Maybe on the first episode. Apparently there is a Season One DVD with Bonus Footage. Not currently on eBay but I did see some elsewhere online for about ten bucks. If there is that much unaired footage then why has the show been “on location” the last few weeks? The Angels ask why Jimmy is talking on a speaker phone when he’s behind the couch. As has happened often with this show, some of these jokes are so bad they still illicit a laugh.
This week’s Wrestlicious Heroines comic features hype for the Glory and Toni the Top match.
Tonight’s main event title match is also a Lumberjack match. Pretty much every woman who has been seen the last few episodes “on location”. Almost all of them. Felony “escaped” which is a quick but funny bit.
Toni the Top vs. Glory for the Wrestlicious Crown.
There’s a graphic for the “Voice of the in-named announcer” which is very odd to mention now but never before.
This match isn’t terrible. The filming is, but the wrestlers are somewhat trained and doing their best.
Toni does run headfirst into the top rope though, whiplashes back, and then Glory dumps her to the floor. She gets beaten up by the faces, gets back in, and is tossed out again. I still stand by that the match is passable, but still has complications. Toni tosses Glory out of the ring rather violently as well. The match continues. Tina the Trigger jumps into the ring to break up a pin. Tina breaks up a chicken wing too and then she gets tossed out of the ring. Glory wins with a big leg drop.
Cousin Cassie and Tyler Texas say they’ll see us next time. A next time that never was.
So, yeah, that’s it. That’s the show. A vision to do GLOW again and they tried, and got picked up for TV. In that way it’s a success. The show has more episodes of TV than I do. But it feels like such an easy concept that 13 episodes is a failure. Dumb dad joke level humor and hot girls in skimpy outfits fighting each other. Cheaply made too! That feels like an easy 100 episodes and then syndicate for years. The wrestlers are trying their best. Everyone else is failing thinking the women can do all the work.
