To Beard or not to Beard

That is a question that I hope comes out how I mean it. And the way I mean it is, should I grow a beard? This has actually been a repeated conversation with multiple people over the last week.

For those that watch my daily quick videos on Instagram or YouTube, you saw a two to three week’s worth of beard growth over the last, well, two to three weeks. I felt it got too long, and the longer it gets the grayer it gets, and then I look older than I am. So I shaved into the adorable baby face that no one has ever said I am. Which was met with disappointment.

Men and women, friends and family, all have said that when my hair and beard are of a certain close length they blend into each other well and it makes me more attractive. Oh, go on. As I’ve been told a lot lately if my beard stays around that five o’clock shadow length and my hair is slightly longer it appears that the whole look is on purpose. This goes against why I often have facial hair, which is I woke up too late to shave and I’m too tired/lazy to do it later. I probably have facial hair more than not, but I also usually have a terrible haircut too. Thus it is no coincidence that now that I have regular appointments to get my haircut by a person who is becoming familiar with me, it’s starting to look better. Add in the scruff, and my work clothes which are nicer than what I usually wear – and I’m borderline attractive.

Like I said though, the facial hair is rarely on purpose and usually a result of my own apathy and laziness. But if there’s a world in which I can pull off this casual but completely planned look, and people react positively to it, and that positivity increases my own confidence – well then, it may just be worth doing. On the other hand, if I never put the work into my appearance to shave daily what makes me think I’ll put in the work on a well trimmed beard?

This blog is not a fashion or lifestyle site but I wonder if the beard debate could spark conversation and maybe that debate can also increase my numbers. If the masses would like me to be a scruffy sexy guy, then you gotta give the people what they want.
