I am 37 years old. I grew up watching Headbangers Ball and reading Metal Edge magazine. Yet despite all that potential for knowledge I only yesterday heard of, discovered and fell in love with Arthur Brown.

How could such a musical and theatrical genius miss my wheelhouse for decades? Obviously he influenced Alice Cooper who came years later. Then there is punk and goth and hundreds of other musicians all making copies of copies of what the God of Hellfire originated.
Just listen to the song. Marvel at the theatrics. Think of people seeing this live going absolutely ape shit in fear and hysteria. This performance should be spoken of in hushed memorable tones of that which was once evil and now is seen as ground breaking. Like Elvis’s hips.
It makes me wonder what else is out there that I’m not aware of. Completely unaware of much like I didn’t know about Arthur Brown until yesterday. Gamera was 2013. These have been around for decades yet I missed them both. Pop culture is an unending fountain that never fails to gift us with new pleasures.
