Now, I’ll never remember where I read it or who said it.  I want to say it was Scott Snyder but I’m not sure.  The idea was that the Joker has to always adapt.  The Joker represents that which is frightening and terrifying.  That’s why he always goes away and comes back slightly changed.  To keep up with the times.  This version of the Joker fits in with that idea nicely.
