The League – Hake’s Americana and Collectibles.

hakesauction209

Its another week for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers and once again we are privledged to have Hake’s Americana and Collectibles providing the weekly assignment.  If you would like to get in on the League fun head on over to http://coolandcollected.com/ to learn all the weekly details.  This week’s assignment was:

Go on a fictional shopping spree at Hake’s current auction #209 to make your collection a little more amazing.

Last time I limited myself to items that would make sense within an adult’s home.  Since that time my collecting has become more and more focused.  I don’t need every scrap of paper, every thing I’ve ever read.  Despite these auctions only being possible thanks to people who didn’t get rid of their junk.

If you would like to check them out as well, look through the catalog at the link below:

However, there is one thing that I found worth any amount.  A peak inside one of the greatest creative studios of all time.  “THE HAPPY KINGDOM OF HANNA-BARBERA” STYLE GUIDE/LICENSING BOOK.

HannaBookFront

The world of Hanna Barbera keeps giving.  Every time you think you’ve seen it all something comes into your knowledge to totally throw you off.  For every marathon viewing of Josie and the Pussycats in Space is less time to discover Devlin or the Addams Family.  This book was for employees only and thankfully at least this one has made its way out for the common man.

The thing that kills me is this line, “Sealab 2020, The Addams Family and Hong Kong Phooey as well as more obscure characters like Frankenstein Jr., Shazzan and The Chattanooga Cats.”  I hate to tell you but Sealab and Hong Kong Phooey are also obscure characters.  Anyone who is aware of Sealab is most likely also aware of Shazzan.  Besides Yogi Bear the Hanna Barbera characters are hovering just under public knowledge.  Which is a damn shame because ridiculous as some of the shows may be they have always been loads of fun.

Take a look at the inside of this book in case you’re looking for a great gift idea for me:
