From 5th World Studios, Michael Moreci, Keith Burns, Jack Davies, Jim Campbell, and Tim Daniel

Reincarnate

As Nate’s search for Tatiana continues, issue #2 ended with an attack on Autumn and Nate at Autumn’s apartment. The story pushes deeper and deeper, all of it connecting back to the man known as El Panda. A man who’s wrong doing is so clean that it couldn’t be traced in the series’ previous issues, but now that the strings are beginning to unravel, the pieces are beginning to fit, Nate starts to find himself at the face of something more corrupt and connected than he may have initially thought.

As Autumn and Nate separate to chase after the sniper that almost took them out, a lot of back story is explored in the chase. Nate’s past as a cop, trying to avenge his father’s murder at the hands of El Panda is exposed here. We also get Jameson’s back story, as a law abiding man, betrayed during a time not unlike Nate’s; shot in the back by his own partner. As Nate finds a getaway boat in the harbor, he also makes a few mistakes along the way, including getting caught and being tied up for his trouble. This issue, more than any, set’s the world Nate inhabits as a one not unlike the type in Batman: Year One. The cops are corrupt, and there are very few people you can trust. In a way, it’s as if the world that Nate first inhabited as Jameson has reincarnated a long with him.

Moreci and Burn’s tight nit story continues to impress and amaze. The best part about it is that the story hasn’t revealed its entire hand, and it’s that great quality, also found on Hoax Hunters, that has translated well on ReincarNATE. Burns’ art continues to impress, capturing Moreci’s scripts well in executing the story and the aesthetic of what ReincarNATE represents. With a conclusion that is mysterious and anticipatory, this team can do no wrong; this is a book to be missed when it’s over.
