Recently we were gifted with an advance review edition of Peter Panzerfaust. This site was one of the first to review this series when it began but its been awhile. So what is happening?
The easy elevator pitch for this book is Peter Pan and the Lost Boys in World War II Europe. However, that can bring up images that lessen the impact of this series. This is a story of boys who have earned the right to be called men. Lets never forget that some of the greatest generation were quite young when they became so great.
Peter Panzerfaust is one of the great mysterious intriguing characters in comics. He keeps so much inside, and there is so much the readers either don’t know or cant be sure about. However, there is one thing we do know. He’s a damn hero.
This issue reintroduces Captain Haken. That’s right, Captain Hook. A man like Peter who has so much passion, exuberance, leadership and yet all of that covering up a deep deep sadness — he can only be compared to the Doctor. Thus a hero of this level needs a villain as large. The interactions between Peter and the Captain are horrible dark, terribly claustrophobic and yet there is a glimmer of hope within. Maybe its in Peter’s eyes. The readers can feel the same way that the boys do. We can all find faith through Peter.
It might be only February but the villain of the year is looking like a two man race. Hint, both competitors feature in comics coming out this Wednesday.
Don’t wait for trade, and don’t hold back your wallet. Peter Panzerfaust is the most rewarding read with each and every issue.
Arrooooo!
