Winter City #4 Review.

From Winter City Productions, Carl Purcell, Patrick Purcell, Pablo Verdugo Munoz, David Aravena Riquelme.

We here at Team Hellions were treated to review copies of Winter City 1-3 and those three issues have led to one of the more interesting comic book discoveries.

Winter City is the tale of the Reaper.  Not a hero nor a villain really.  He is a force of justice and vengeance.  The Reaper is killing those businessmen who have destroyed not only his life, but the lives of many many around him as well.  Over 12 issues readers and fans will discover not only the Reaper’s origin, but the story behind his city as well.

The shadowy rich now realize they are targets, and have begun to plot against the Reaper.  Which would be enough against a normal man but the Reaper is so aggressive, so violent and so driven its possible he’s not even human at all.  Is his quest for justice more Batman or Ghost Rider?  The series is only 1/3 done so that answer may have to wait awhile.

In every issue our bloodthirsty anti hero becomes more than just a force of punishment, but a well rounded and sympathetic character as well.  We see Sam Winters meet an adorable young girl named Casey Day.  She is bright and cheerful as her namesake.  Which makes it all the more painful knowing that something bad must happen to her.  A being like the Reaper is created in bloodshed, not in peace.  I’m already preparing myself for one of the toughest punch-in-the-gut moments from all of comics.

The writing and art continue to improve with every issue.  Scenes that should be boring, groups of men talking, burst forth with energy and drama.  They know how to pace and how to always give the reader the appearance of action.  Plus there are the actual movements of the Reaper.  Sudden, dangerous, and mystical.  He frightens me so much I don’t want to turn my back or the page for fear of what may be done.
