Broken Pieces #4 Review.

From Aspen Comics, Mark Roslan, Cory Smith, Beth Sotelo, Josh Reed.

Its time to play catch up.  Aspen Comics released this title last month but the events of my life caused this issue to slip through the reviewing cracks.  Time to make amends and tell all of you about this issue.

Broken Pieces is the tale of Dr Richard Adam trying to put himself and his life back together again.  One cell and sinew at a time.  Richard is a post modern day Frankenstein’s monster trying to rectify something good out of the chaos that surrounds him.  As if trying to be a savior wasn’t tough enough Richard also has to be a protector.

Sophie is the tiny bit of hope in the world.  If this young girl can not only last in this world, but also keep her spirits up then maybe there is some potential left for society.

That potential is then seen in Richard’s growth.  He not only grows as a person, and as a hero.  He also very physically grows.  Richard begins to heal and this change is a sign that maybe society’s ills can be healed.  Mark’s script is fantastic and this story would be trash in the hands of a lesser writer.

Thankfully he’s assisted by Cory Smith who knows how to show off the subtlties of Richard’s healing.  From panel to panel the differences don’t seem that extreme, but pages into the book and it hits.  There is a scene bathed in purple with just a touch of yellow that is one of the most original pages I’ve ever seen.  Its beautiful work and really adds much more drama to Richard’s story.

The final issue of Broken Pieces comes out soon and your body would be just breaking apart if you miss out on this ending.
