Oh yeah. Advanced review! I’m getting caught up on all the cool things that people are nice enough to share with me right here at Team Hellions! (Said with Mick Foley voice.) Today we have the latest issue of Executive Assistant: Assassins, available in all fine comic shops on November 14th!
From Aspen Comics, Vince Hernandez, Lori “Cross” Hanson, Jonathan Bolerjack, John Starr, Josh Reed.
Aspen Comics once again pulls at the emotions of its readers and through adversity creates yet another amazingly strong female character. Sophora’s story is heart breaking and yet exactly how an Executive Assistant should be.
Sophora falls in love, which is never a good idea for an EA. Especially when that love is not to her “master”. Guys listen up. This woman has been given everything, plus she is one of the most dangerous killers on the planet. A poor young man wins her heart by doing that one thing no other man could do for her. Get your minds out of the gutters. He listened.
That’s all it took. Listening to a woman as she pours out her feelings. Not listening in order to get laid, not listening for any other sort of gain. Listening out of love and a desire to help just by being present in the moment. Guys. Be good listeners.
Of course it also helps to be good in combat as well. Sophora and Landon fight not only for their lives but for each other as well. Their code to each other is so strong it influences others on the ship. There are numerous kinds of loyalties in play during this fight and its a great insight into each character to see what side those loyalties land on.
The ending is really the only ending an Executive Assistant could have. Its both sad and strong. Best of all its open ended as fans around the world will be anxiously awaiting more of Sophora.
I went into many details about how great the creative team is during the review of issue 4. All of those feeling still hold, but they did something crazy in this issue. Sophora’s tattoos, her whole appearance, was worked into the pages in absolutely gorgeous ways. Its a great example of how comic books can do more than either words or pictures alone. A beautiful way to just envelop the reader into this book.
Check out this full solicitation from Aspen Comics for more details.
