The League XXXIII: Halloween Costumes.

Once again its time for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers to be given a question and then we take over the interwebs with our answers!  Lets see what Brian over at Cool and Collected http://coolandcollected.com/  has for us this week.

Remember when Halloween was a big deal? I mean, a BIG deal? What was the most legendary costume you ever wore? What would you dress up as this year?

Oh boy this is tough.  Honestly, this would be a much easier assignment in a week or so.  By then I’ll have been up to my Mom’s and could dig through some old photo albums.  So stay tuned to an update on this post in a week!

In the mean time I can remember a few costumes and a few stories just for fun.

I do remember dressing up as Buzz Off from He Man and the Masters of the Universe.  Buzz Off!  Just a random new character from a kids show and yet there I go out on Halloween night expecting adults to know who the hell I am.  I have no doubt that there will be many a person answering the door this year wondering who the hell a Skylander is (and I had to look that up just to make a reference).

Later years I’d go as more recognizable concepts.  A doctor.  That costume was thrown together in 5 minutes.  I think it was one of those years in which I thought I was too old to go out and then very upset when Halloween came.  My grandmother threw together an outfit in moments and I had a blast.  Although there were some surgical gloves as part of the costume, and I sweated right through them.  As a child did you know there was powder in those gloves?  Maybe the grossest my hands have ever felt.  And I’ve eaten a Big Montana.

After that a clown seemed like an easier idea.  Yes, face paint sounded better than powdered gloves.  Kid logic.  Instead the grease paint came right off while wearing the far too hot clown costume.  A drippy clown is a sad clown.  End of the night all I had left was a blotchy face and a red nose.  I should have just said I was a drunk clown.

Fast forward to the height of the Monday Night Wrestling wars and I decided to dress as Sting.  Black and white face paint (an unexpected theme has developed) and a trenchcoat.  I could only find a navy blue one, but its dark and no one will notice!  Now to sit out on the porch in my awesome outfit and hand out candy to the trick r treaters.

Well no one did notice because no one came to the house.  Parents see the black and white make up and dark clothes and assume their kids are about to get razor apples from a Juggalo/Misfit/Alice Cooper/Kiss/King Diamond.

Apparently wrestling wasn’t as big as I thought that year.  Usually 100 or so kids stop by.  That year I think we topped out at 30.  30 brave, bold, or maybe stupid children.

That was the last costume for over ten years.  Then Halloween became fun again.  To the bars!  I was overweight and scruffy and needed a costume in moments.  What better costume than the fat guy staple — Silent Bob!

Plus my name’s Kevin too!  I’m still proud of this outfit.

Last year was the fist big Halloween party I’ve ever been to.  The fiance and I dressed up as the Joker and Batgirl.  She did a pretty good job with my make up (oh look the theme returns!)  but everyone thought we went too far when we tried to reenact the Killing Joke.  Bunch a party poopers!

This year I’m thinking of going as Hawkeye.  The lady will be dressed as Katniss and dual archers seems like a pretty fun idea.  Really all I need is a black tank top, black pants, some random straps to attach across various parts of my body, and some purple spray paint for highlights.  Oh, and a bow.  Do you have any idea how much a toy bow costs?  $35!  For a toy bow!  Hell for that price I may as well buy a real one and take care of the pesky varmints in the neighborhood.  I got my eyes on you skunk.  Yeah, you with the stinky butt.  I’m watching you.

I expect this post to get updated throughout the month.  Speaking of updated, lets keep updating with the rest of the League:
