Top 4 of Superstars 8/16/12

This is the “wrestling” show, right? So why is it in 46:40 of air time the amount of wrestling we get is 20:10? There is plenty of time to cut out the WWE Shop promos, the Summer Slam promos, the anything they want to promos. One more match that’s about five minutes, that’s all I’m asking. But make at least half of the air time wrestling if this is the wrestling show. Drew McIntyre vs. Alex Riley didn’t even get a full five minutes of time, which is what cost it this week.

4. Justin Gabriel vs. Damien Sandow

I like Gabriel, I’m not a fan of Sandow. The commentary decided to make me dislike Sandow even more. Striker was busy trying to talk him up and all I wanted to do was shove a sock down his throat and wish Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins would kidnap him again. I was so busy listening to Striker brag about his own intellect and talk about Sandow’s higher intellect and how math and physics were coming into play in this wrestling match that I sort of just zoned out on the match. I’ve never said Sandow was a bad wrestler, it’s the last reason I would choose not to like him, but thanks to poor commentary (yeah, Mathews didn’t help either, but he never does, he just exists) I wasn’t able to get over the hump that was the main event.

3. Drew McIntyre vs. Alex Riley

The biggest disadvantage to this match was time. Drew McIntyre came out in new ring attire and a new jacket and I sort of glazed over for a few moments and just appreciated the look. Hopefully this will mean bigger and better things for him, we all know he deserves it. But, this match is about Riley getting another win. Is it even a big deal anymore to get a win over McIntyre? When was the last time he won? When he said he was back, and then went back to a losing streak? I’d rather Riley fight someone else and win, show they are trying to push him, and give McIntyre a few good fights against opponents and let him win. Or let him feud! SOMETHING DAMN IT!

2. The Usos vs. Michael McGillicutty & Johnny Curtis

Second time this week The Usos have been in one of my favorite matches. On Superstars they face off against the brilliant McGillicutty and Curtis. Curtis has a slightly new hairstyle that works for him and I want to beg him to make sure he keeps it. Solid match in which Scott Stanford explains the different styles between the two tag teams, and the new tattoo on one of the Uso’s arms.

1. Scott Stanford

Speaking of Scott, he tops the list again, because as usual he tries to give rhyme and reason to the matches before you. He explains styles, he calls moves, and he in general is a pleasing source of commentary while others decide they can’t take themselves, or the matches, as seriously as they should. My stance on Striker wavered considerably this week, and I’ve never been a fan of Mathews. I highly enjoy commentary but WWE insists on using the worst in the largest roles while Scott and Regal get portions and bits. Again, this turned more into a rant, but it’s something I feel passionately about. In case you haven’t guessed.

“And is Johnny Curtis wearing hashtag Let’s Get Weird on his derriere?”

“Look at how high Jimmy gets.”

“He will fight through the pain, and win or lose, no excuses here tonight.”

“There’s only one way to explain Alex Riley and the first word that comes to mind: explosive.”
