The Captain America sequel has been subtitled “The Winter Soldier”.  Who or what is a Winter Soldier.

 

The Winter Soldier is Captain America’s former partner, who everyone thinks is dead, Bucky.

Bucky was dead in the comics from 1968 to 2005.  Suddenly he returned as the Winter Soldier.  The story is that while Captain America ended up frozen in ice, Bucky was found by the Russians.  He lost an arm, but that has been cybernetically replaced and constantly upgraded.  He is also “frozen” in between missions thus Bucky has only aged a few years.  Winter Soldier remembers his past as Bucky and becomes a hero.  When Steve Rogers was thought to be dead, Bucky took on the guise of Captain America.

Sebastian Stan, who played Bucky in the movie, is confirmed for a return in this sequel.
