Director Edgar Wright revealed some test footage and Marvel Studios officially announced an Ant-Man movie.  From IMDB.com:

Biochemist Dr. Hank Pym uses his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects.

Hank Pym becomes so much more than this.  He can grow or shrink in size.  The helmet does indeed help him communicate with ants, and remember ants are everywhere and some of them can fly.  Also, some of these powers end up with his girlfriend/wife (depending on when the story takes place) Janet Van Dyne who later becomes the Wasp.

Ant-Man and Wasp are two of the original Avengers in the Marvel Comics  series.
