Hit Girl #1 Review.

I had a lot of issues with certain things in the first Kick Ass series.  Enjoyed it, but something held me back from loving it.  Of course I saw the movie, as any and all good comic book fans should.  It was pretty good, very intense and if it hadn’t been on Netflix watch instantly for so damn long I would have bought the BluRay a while ago.  All of that said, I still haven’t bothered with Kick Ass 2.  Whatever that mental block is, its enough to make me avoid the sequel.  But here comes Hit Girl.

So I gave this a try today.  Let me see if putting Hit Girl in the front leads to something different.

It does.

This is a natural story for such a character, and it has the potential to speak to a wide audience.  Its the concept of an outcast, which most of us comic book fans are or were at some point, and puts that concept into the world of the comic.  Its Peter Parker for a new generation.  Sure, as a hero you could destroy each and every one of the “normal” “regular” people encountered during the day.  But they’re not bad guys.  Jerks, assholes and misguided though they may be, they are not super villains.

So with all of this training and information, what is a young girl to do in the scary eat or be eaten, kill or be killed world of school?  This has great potential to be Mean Girls for the comic book crowd.

Sure, it is a Kick Ass comic, but come into it with open eyes.  This is very much Hit Girl’s story and if it wasn’t so damn R rated I would suggest it for any girl you know who has even a slight interest in comics.  As it is a bit adult, hand it off to every woman and any girl with a good mind that can handle such ideas.
