In less than an hour, TNA will present their tenth annual Slammiversary PPV. Sometime during the event there will be a major announcement regarding the first inductee to the newly created TNA Hall of Fame.
Sure, there are lots of jokes. The company has only been around 10 years, there is no actual physical Hall of Fame building, etc. However, these wrestlers deserve to be recognized for all that they have done. So who is likely to be the first name? Here are my top 4 possibilities.
Honorable mention: Jeff Jarrett. Creator of the company, multiple champion, and every single fan’s first guess. The only reason he’s not in the top four is because Jarrett himself said that its not him.
4. Abyss.
Abyss appeared on TNA’s first show as Justice. He has since gone on to win every title in TNA. Numerous times. For a gimmick that fans originally saw as a Kane or Mankind rip off, Abyss has become his own character over the years. Whether bleeding and dominating violent matches, or showing his more comedic side with Dr Stevie or his current story with his “brother”, Abyss deserves far more credit for all of his work.
3. Beer Money
This would be a great swerve by TNA. To honor the champion, and one of the few men who have been in TNA since the beginning. Why not turn the Hall of Fame into an angle? To really mess with the fans and still honor a tag team, why not America’s Most Wanted? If it wasn’t for the fact that Chris Harris has fallen off the face of the wrestling world, this would be my favorite pick.
2. Sting
The most likely pick, even though its number two on here. Sting has had the longest career, second only to Hogan, of people currently in TNA. It would be a great way to stick it to WWE. To honor a legit legend before New York has the chance to. While it is more likely that Hogan would be honored, TNA loves to do these slight swerves. “The fans expect us to do this… so lets do this similar yet different thing instead!”
1. AJ Styles
Really, the only option. Is it possible to get over a new nickname for a wrestler in this blog? “The First”. First X Division champion. First Triple Crown champion. First Grand Slam champion. First 5 star match in TNA (along with Daniels and Samoa Joe). First TNA star to be ranked at #1 in the PWI 500. AJ was on the first TNA show and has been with the company ever since. No contract disputes, no jump to WWE. No long term injuries keeping him out. There is no doubt, TNA would be a lesser company without the contributions of The Phenomenal One.
