Zounds! Behold Today’s Most Stunning Comic Book Covers! 5/23/12.

Yeah, lets try a new title for this weekly article and see what happens, hit wise.

That word Zounds is on purpose because it reminds me of Zeus, and I want to talk about Zeus Comics.  I was talking on Twitter earlier this week with Richard Neal of Zeus Comics.  One of the greatest comic book stores on the planet, and that’s official.  Zeus is going to have a lot of great things happening to celebrate Marvel Comics’ first gay wedding.  In addition to always being a help, and of course the greatest geek based sitcom in any medium today, the Variants!

Head over to the shop and enjoy a wide selection and great customer service.

Now…

Lets get this comic party started!

Archie #633

What a beautiful baby!  Not only does Archie go in a totally different direction with the lead character dating, then marrying Valerie.  But they have a child!  Which means they had sex!  Yeah, dirty Archie sex and we’re going to put it on the front cover just to rub it in your face.  Loads of comic publishers promise to be “ground breaking” but only Archie Comics is actually doing it.

Captain America and Hawkeye #631

Steve Rogers as Captain Dinosaur?!  This could be the worst written, worst drawn comic in the history of the form and yet I’ll buy it just for that cover.  The fiance is a big fan of all things dinosaurs.  I may have to get this one bagged and boarded then hang it up on our all new Wall o’ Dinosaurs.

Fantastic Four #606

The Fantastic Four and Reader’s Digest team up for “I Am Joe’s Mutated Bloodstream”.  My other joke was Fantastic Four Voyage.  Anyways, this is what Fantastic Four should be.  Adventures into the unknown and unexplored.  The Four should always be adding to the Marvel Universe, expanding its depth.  This includes galaxies and microcosms as well.

Fathom: Kiani #2 (cover by Ryan)

I absolutely love the color lines on this.  It would draw your attention from across the comic book store and then looks even better close up.  Full review of this comic is coming up later today.  I cant stop looking at this though.  Look at Kiani!  She just exudes strength and confidence while being stunning.  The kind of girl you try to look at but turn away before you’re caught for fear she will kick your ass.

The Guild: Fawkes #1

Get your Wil Wheaton here!  Get him in all his glory!  You may not be able to afford a painting of Wil and Felicia, Fawkes and Codex, but you can damn sure afford this book.

Hero Comics 2012

Yes its a cheesecake cover and serves no purpose other than to be exploitative.  But its a great cover!  Be a wolf and stare!

Hulk Smashes Avengers #4

Its Mr Fixit!  What a great cover during the height of Avengers hysteria.  Yes, its a gray Hulk and in a suit but its still very much the Hulk.  Plus he has his hands on Hawkeye.  All of those new fans that “should” be coming into stores will be drawn to this cover.  Great marketing.

The Mighty Thor #14

As a counter to the Hero cover from above, I give you this.  Thor (I think. Donald Blake?) as Enchantress’s bitch.  Plus her exposed skin is mostly covered by the logo.  She is also in a very natural and powerful pose.  No brokeback, no thong, just straight up dominance.

Resident Alien #1

Have you ever seen a more laid back alien?  Its a great cover for so many reasons.  The play on alien.  The almost Norman Rockwell style.  The way everything looks strange and yet so normal as well.  Plus, if any of you have read the teaser for this book and know the twist the cover then becomes that much better.
