Recently my friend and fellow Hellion Sweet Matty Treats saw the Avengers movie.  He’s not a comic book reader and was confused by the credit scene.  To help him and to help all of you I decided to give an explanation.

I’m going to hide the information.  But if you seek it out anyways, its your own fault.

The alien at the end of the movie is named Thanos.

Thanos is born of the moon Titan.  He is an evil force in the Marvel Universe.  He wants to create death and chaos throughout the universe.  In Marvel the personification of Death is a woman, and Thanos wants to court that woman.  The best way to court Death is to cause it and so he has a history of going after any and all powers which can help him cause death on a massive scale.  At one point he joined together all of the Infinity Gems (powerful crystals) to form the Infinity Gauntlet.  With this power one anything is possible and the posseser of it is pretty much a god.  Thanos’s first act was to kill half of all life in the universe.
