Dixie Carter is in the middle of the ring, with the TNA roster surrounding it, to introduce “a man who needs no introduction”. Oh boy. Not a good start to TNA. Hogan says its a “new era” and makes dramatic matches for Lockdown. Like Matt Morgan vs. Crimson, which I predicted. Hogan makes a massive Knockouts match to figure out a number one contender because he cant. I cant figure out the alliances, because Gail and Madison are standing next to each other.
Ric Flair gets into it with Hogan. How in the hell does Hogan not make some comment, like “nice of you to show up on our show Flair.” Missed opportunity. Hogan makes more matches but we’ll get to those later in the show.
The show becomes a lot of things I have previously said. I wont talk about the Jeff Hardy match, because I don’t support people who endanger the lives of their opponents. Bully Ray is in this year’s “destroy the X-Division” story arc. Abyss is playing his “brother” and its entertaining as hell, but very quickly running the risk of over exposure.
Mickie James vs. Winter vs. Tara vs. Angelina Love vs. Madison Rayne vs. Velvet Sky
Ugh. All these contenders, and its a first fall match. You don’t need to earn a title shot, just be lucky. If there is going to be this many people in a match then it has to be elimination style. There’s a good chance someone in this match wont even get a chance to be a part of it. Its also impossible to put together a good match story. Not the best way to highlight the Knockouts tonight.
No one can be trusted, everyone wants the title for themselves. Its a finishing move spot fest at the end with Velvet getting the upper hand on everyone else.
James Storm vs. AJ Styles.
Hmmm Storm is in the middle of a huge push, and a world title feud. AJ has been wondering why his friends don’t like him. And that’s been his only story for months. TNA isn’t even making it difficult for me to guess a winner as soon as the entrance music is played.
Motor City Machine Guns vs. Mexican America.
Motor City is back! Its been almost a year since Sabin was injured and tag team wrestling around the US has been hurting ever since. It also means its been a year since Hernandez has been anywhere near the main event level push he once had. Sabin gets the pin on Anarquia and its not a bad match. I don’t know that Mexican America were the best pick to show off what MCMG can do. A lighter, faster team would have led to a better match.
Hogan makes a Team Bischoff vs. Team Bischoff match for Lockdown. And, here’s another story I don’t have to pay attention to for the next month.
Mr Anderson vs. Bobby Roode (TNA World champion).
Again, who is in the middle of a push? TNA booking leaves behind all mystery and suspense. If I were given the matches and told to guess I could have guessed every match correctly tonight. Storm smashes a bottle over Anderson’s head and picks up the pin. Very unimpressive match.
Storm comes down and has a spat with Roode.
Hogan reverses the decision and awards the match to Mr Anderson. Well that’s a horrible precedent. Why even bother having the referees?
