Rebel Blood #1 Review.

From Image Comics, Riley Rossmo and Alex Link.

I… I don’t know what the fuck I just read.

This is a deceptively simple book.  I’ve read comics for decades and yet I have no idea what is going on here.  Its a zombie story, but something completely different too.  One of the largest obvious differences between Rebel Blood and other zombie tales is that this version of the outbreak can be transmitted between all animals.  An excellent difference that really should be seen more.

The story jumps time and it becomes so confusing that the comic demands multiple readings.  Even after that I’m still not sure what is happening.  There are panels that put into question the truth of other panels.  I have yet to figure out what to trust within the pages.  Every page is a fever dream of hallucination.  I know I saw a deer god, and a camera crew, but dammit I still don’t have a clue how or where it all fits in.  It might not even fit in.

Never before have I wanted to delve into a series so deeply just to find answers.  I’m so confused, but I know that all the answers I need are here.  Until the next issue, when all the confusion comes rushing back.  Its the comic equivalent of House of Leaves.

I would love to describe this comic to you more fully.  If I had any clue what was happening.  Its intriguing, fascinating, and a mind job.
