The Smarked for Death Wrestling Review for WWE Smackdown 3/23/12.

Its probably the last Smackdown before WrestleMania.  Chances are next week will be one or two matches but mostly scenes from WrestleMania weekend and plenty of hype videos.

Daniel Bryan is out first and AJ is in gear.  I’ll predict a match is made!  Hearing Michael Cole put over the now heel Bryan is strange.  It also makes everything Cole previously said feel like a waste of time.  More so than the usual wastes of time his words are.  We get the idea that Daniel is a bad boyfriend and not healthy for AJ by any means.  But telling her what to say, coaching her, is a much better way to go than the abusive angle this leans toward at times.  Sheamus comes out for the usual I’m going to kick your ass promo.  Which means that AJ cut a better promo tonight than your main event challenger.

R-Truth vs. Mark Henry.

I’m not a big Truth fan, but him dancing and playing with the invisible little Jimmy was hysterical.  Doesn’t help him any though.  Mark Henry destroys Truth.  As it should be.  Mark is a former world champion, and is just a beast.  Truth is also on Team Teddy and its more interesting to have Team Teddy look like underdogs going into the ‘Mania  match.

Zack Ryder gets on Team Teddy!  It was honestly goofy.  Teddy Long is forming the Island of Misfit Toys to combat Team Johnny’s former world champions team.  Great Khali and Hornswoggle have exhausted my patience.  All that being said though, Zack Ryder deserves to be on the WrestleMania card.  No one has tried harder this year to make it in WWE.

Yokozuna will be going into the WWE Hall of Fame.  Its a shame he’s already gone.  There is so much that could have been done with that character.  Does anyone have a best of Yokozuna collection?  That’s someone I would like to rewatch as an older smarter wrestling fan.

AJ (with Daniel Bryan) vs. Brie Bella (with Nikki)

AJ wins and looks great in the ring.  The Bellas then argue over which Team they support at ‘Mania.  Oh what in the hell.  Take AJ’s great work and then just bury it.  Now the fans will only remember this cheerleader routine.  Bunch o’ crap.

Jack Swagger (with Vickie Guerrero) vs. Zack Ryder (with Hornswoggle).

Someone on Twitter pointed out that Swagger is channeling Biff Tannen from Back to the Future.  Think that and Swagger becomes your new favorite wrestler.  Swagger has a sick powerbomb into the turnbuckle in his arsenal.  Great move.  Is the Rough Ryder now called the snapshot?  Not a bad name.  Vickie and Horny start doing enough crap to distract everyone.  Zack takes advantage, hits the previously mentioned finisher on Jack and gets the pin.  Maybe Ryder can be built back up now.

Cody Rhodes leaves the arena at 1PM to catch a flight.  Um, why even go to the arena then?  Seems very unnecessary.  Anyone else think he’s still in the arena?  We’re about to find out.

Big Show vs. Kane.

I understand the booking reasons for this match.  Its a bookend to Raw, both men need warm ups for ‘Mania, etc.  But we know what’s going to happen.  Oh look there’s Cody.  Cody and Show fight, Show chases Cody off.  Now Randy Orton appearing so he can RKO Kane was unexpected.  Very needed too.  Just to give something more to this match.  Acceptable but there wasn’t much to this match.

WWE doesn’t like bullying.  Unless its part of the show.  Daniel Bryan take notes.

Brodus Clay vs. Heath Slater.

Am I suppose to call him Funkasaurus at some point?  Its a squash.  Even though Slater is a “3 time tag team champion”.  Yeah, I can name a dozen people who are tag team champions and yet don’t pose a threat to any wrestler.

Great Khali vs. Dolph Ziggler.

Its another chapter in the Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy feud.  It is not however a good match.  Its not about the wrestlers, or furthering any of them.  It does nothing for Dolph, who should be getting built up into the future star of the company that he is destined to be.  Dolph locks on a sleeper and Johnny rings the bell.  OMG its the Smackdown screw job!  Teddy restarts the match, and Dolph gets counted out.  So, again, I stand by what I said.  This whole angle is not about the wrestlers.  Kofi and Santino grab Dolph, throw him in the ring, and he gets a Khali pork chop.  Ugh.  I’ll be glad when this story is over.

CM Punk (WWE Champion) and Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan (World champion) and the Miz.

I’ll predict Miz takes the pin.  Cant believe Sheamus got the “Danny Boy” chant over.

And I was right.  Not a bad match.  Whole point was to build up Sheamus going into ‘Mania.  He looked better than anyone else in the match.  And, as predicted, Miz takes the loss.

Poor Miz.
