The Smarked for Death Wrestling Review for Ring of Honor 3/17/12.

Not the best Ring of Honor show I’ve ever seen, and a let down from last week, but still a fun show.

The show began with Adam Cole taking on Chris Silvio.  A highlight package was shown featuring Cole pinning the ROH world champion Davey Richards.  So you know that Adam will win this match.  You just don’t job out someone like this who just pinned the champ.  It leaves out any drama or uncertainty in the match.  However Adam Cole is a really good wrestler and still quite young.  Its no wonder the rumors that WWE is interested in him were so easy to accept.

Unfortunately after this match there was only one more on the show which means lots of filler and hype.  I’m still very unsure how I feel about the booking on these episodes.  I understand using the whole hour as a hype machine for IPPVs, live shows, DVDs, shirts, furthering angles and all the other fun stuff.  But it ends up being such a mood killer.  As I become more accustomed to the pacing of the show chances are I’ll be fast forwrding through these segments.

IF I had done that though I would have missed out on some great mic work by the Briscoe Brothers and Kevin Steen.  These men are the lead contenders for wrestler of the year and tag team of the year.  Every moment that any of them are on camera you MUST pay attention.  Every word, the body language, and of course their matches is of main event caliber.

Roderick Strong takes on Jay Lethal in the other match of the show and its part of their March Madness style tournament with the winner to receive $24,000.  Jay is a better wrestler than his time in TNA.  Every match is exciting and crisp and the crowd becomes excited with every signature move.  Roderick is fine but he’s not impressing me as much as he used to a year or two ago.  Am I so familiar with his work or has he stagnated?  Please let me know because I want to enjoy him again but its just not happening right now.

An OK show, but the best part of it was hyping up the events from the Young Wolves Rising IPPV.  Now I need to find a free four hours or so to watch this event.  While the matches on the show weren’t enough for me, the commercials have me spending money to see everything the commercials didn’t show me.
