Dr Richard Adams and his wife, Dr Gabriella Adams are working on a new cure all when bad things happen. To say more would be to spoil the events inside the book.
The story jumps through three points in time so we can see the changes in their relationship. There is love, tragedy and rebirth. It is hard to care for a monster, but this issue does a great job of building Richard Adams into a sympathetic character. His life, his work, his relationship, his mind and his body are all broken.
From the beginning there were comparisons to Frankenstein’s monster but the story is so much more. The monster is parts of numerous people forged together into one being. Richard Adams was a whole human being, like anyone else, who now has to build himself back up one piece at a time.
While flipping the pages the reader can feel the frustration Richard is going through. The “treatment” that has turned him into a monster gives him the ability to heal. But not enough. Its not a matter of putting together a puzzle and finding out some pieces are missing from the box. Its worse than that. Its finding half a piece. To be so close to putting something together and yet failing. Richard Adams can heal but only so much. Its not enough to better his body, and may not be enough to heal his mind.
This is only the second issue of five and its engrossing. New and original yet also classic and mythic at the same time. Please pick up this series and discover what is already a front runner for best limited series of the year.
