Recently my buddy Reis O’Brien of The Lair of the Dork Horde turned me on to the Cool and Collected site. An incredible amount of posts featuring all manner of geeky stuff. Once a week they ask fellow bloggers one question and we all answer then share some of the other posts. Its a circle of geeky friendship! Here is this week’s question:
You have an unlimited budget and space is not a problem. What piece of Hollywood memorabilia would you want hanging around in your batcave?
I have now debated this question for hours. It has to be more than an item. It has to be something with great meaning in my life. More than just an object to display, it has to transcend time and space and emotion. No matter what happens in life this object has to have the power to make me that the world is innocent, magical, and full of the possibility that anyone can become great. That is why my pick for this question is…
The Monster Squad tree house.
It is everything we look for as adults. A place to get away from it all, to hide from the dangers of the world. Once inside there is no choice but to lose yourself in the geekery that surrounds you. Model kits, comic books, Famous Monsters of Filmland (or my current favorite, Scary Monsters magazine) are stacked or piled every where you look. Posters covering other posters. All of this in a serene woods that is never too cold, never too warm, and never raining.
Yes, in order to buy this tree house everything would have to exist inside. It is a place in which mint condition doesn’t matter. Enjoyment is king. If it doesn’t look beaten up and thoroughly torn through then it doesn’t belong here. Unless of course it has just arrived after sending away box tops in the mail. This tree house will become my own private Acker-mansion.

I’m nervous that my current man cave might resemble this tree house a little too closely. 0_o
Is this a bad thing?
Cool! Yeah, my first thought when tackling this question was a tree house, though mine took a slightly different turn. I love the fact that the MS clubhouse even has a slightly elevated second level, like they needed to add on to it after it was first built. Too bad Dracula had to get a bitchy and blow it up like he did. Wonder if Sean and the gang ever rebuilt it…
I have to imagine all their kids hang out in the many times rebuilt tree house. All of the kids have grown up and turned their home town into a geek mecca. Fat kid runs the nearby comic store. There’s an indy movie theater. Every so often the whole group has to travel to shut down some monster menace elsewhere. I need to stop and write this all down for a pitch.
DO write it down! Have you seen this week’s topic for the League? 😉
