For a week chock full of good comics, there were very few covers that blew me away.  I still suggest buying books like Avenging Spider-Man, Fables, Super Dinosaur and I’m forgetting dozens along the way there.  Point is there are lots of cool things coming out today.

This week a darkness fell upon comic book land.  We have tried for years to be seen as respectable, intelligent, worldly, all encompassing, and so on.  Headway was made!  Then Comic Book Men debuted.  Sigh.  If you want to show how creative and smart comic book fans can be, I suggest sharing The Variants.  Created by the crew at approved store, Zeus Comics, The Variants is the best comic book based show in the world.  Take that AMC!

That is one messed up looking Batman.  It would give Sam Keith nightmares.

I am trying to enjoy this cover on its own and not think of what is about to, or just happened when they kept the costumes on.

Soulfire #7

I debated and debated on which cover to pick out of the two available for this title.  In the end I went with the Francisco art and I hope that doesn’t make me less of a man.

 

Ultimate Comics X-Men #7

This one was honestly a tough pick.  Its a great drawing, that’s for sure.  But who is it?  The purple “things” coming off her hands looks like Psylocke’s psyche knife.  But the issue’s solicit information mentions Scarlet Witch.  Or maybe Mary Jane discovered how to shoot purple things from her hands.  In short, pretty picture, would be even prettier if it was more obvious who the character is.  Much like Sucker Punch.
