The Scapegoat: Why I’m Telling This Story by @KitCatFilms.

My favorite things about movies are the characters.  I love watching these characters get put into certain situations and seeing how they would react.  Would I react differently?  Would I share their views?  I begin to contemplate these questions as I watch.

So yes, for me as a screenwriter, the first thing I think about are my characters.  And in The Scapegoat I have Sonia, Aurelio, and Trevor.  You can read about each of them in my previous posts, so I won’t bore you all here with that.  ;)   But needless to say, a lot of thought went into them.  The second thing I think about when writing, is what situation I am going to give these characters.  And yes, as most of you already know, my three characters are placed in the situation that their heist has gone terribly wrong and now one of them will have to take the fall for it while the other two can then get away.

It happened a couple months ago that this thought came to me.  I wondered what it would be like to be stuck in a room with two others I admired and have grown to really like, but then were forced to have to turn one of them in.  Would I turn myself in?  The valiant answer would of course be yes.  But in truth, I wouldn’t want to go to prison any more than the next guy.  And thus here is where my plot started.  Three almost friends are forced to choose one of them to go down for a crime they were all apart of.

I love seeing what others would do in situations I will never find myself in.  I don’t look to be robbing a jewelry store anytime soon, and honestly I’d feel so guilty about it if I did that I’d return all the jewels even if I did get away with it.  I’d make an awful jewel thief.  But, luckily for me (and my mom), I can write about it : ).  The beauty of being a screenwriter.  I am writing this story because I want to see what three strong characters would do in a situation where one of them has to take the fall for the others.  In short, there is my answer for why I am telling this story. : )

And why Venice, Italy some of you might be asking?  Well I sort of answered this in a previous post, but my own personal reasons are because I fell in love with that city from the very first moment I went there.  Honestly I was in love with it before.  When I was younger, the one city I had to see in my life was Venice, Italy.  Or Venezia as the Italians would prefer I call it ; ) (I know some Italians who always tell me this haha).

I have been so fortunate to have been to Venezia now twice.  The city is really like a dream.  Almost seems like another world.  And that is why it’s the perfect destination for my tale.  Sonia, Aurelio, and Trevor are almost living in their own world away from reality.  They were living the high life, didn’t think anything could bring them down.  But then something did.  Their reality was shattered.  Their beautiful world has been turned upside down, and yet they have found themselves in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  A cruel reminder of what they had before.  Their romantic life as jewel thieves has led them to their end in the most romantic city in the world.

So yes, that is why Venice, Italy ;) .

Have any of you been to Venice?  It’s absolutely beautiful, isn’t it?  Though I will admit that I got very lost on my first trip there.  I went by myself and decided to just roam the beautiful endless streets for a while.  That was all good and well until it started to get dark, and then I found myself in a very quiet part of the city with not much Italian to my name.  I can say the important things, like…

Voglio un gelato.  (I would like an ice cream.)

Mi dispiace.  (I’m sorry.)

Vorrei rapinare la gioielleria.  (I would like to rob your jewelry store.) ;)

But otherwise, my Italian is not so good ;) .  So anyway, I got a bit lost in these quiet parts of the city.  Which now looking back was a great thing, as I am using these locations in The Scapegoat : ).  It’s funny how things end up working out ; ).

Alright my lovely friends, I shall leave you all now.  But please do continue to help me spread the word on our funding campaign for The Scapegoat.  It really does mean the world to a young filmmaker who’s dream is to make movies and to inspire the world to make their own : ).  The world is yours for the taking!  Go take it!  (Just please don’t end up going out in a shooting rampage like Tony Montana… or actually, maybe that would be pretty epic) ;) .

If you have a moment, please check out my next film The Scapegoat here: http://kck.st/w4cvBg

Have a great night my lovely friends!  So much love to you all!  And remember, keep getting out there and making your dreams a reality.  The only one holding you back, is you.  Just believe in yourself.  I do : ).

Lots of love!

Cathy
