From Aspen Comics, Chap Taylor, Peter Johnson and Michael Ryan.
Tom Whalen is rolling water hard boiled and its takes a lot of alcohol to replace what has steamed out. He lives in New York City. As anyone who has read any story in any medium about a cop in New York City can tell you, the characters are never black or white. Decisions cant be based on right or wrong, they are based on survival. So when Tom gets into a barfight and bad things happen, its understandable and the readers will be right there with him for what is expected to happen next.
Until a ghost shows up.
Taking the term “melting pot” and stirring in some “ethnic superstitions” creates the original idea behind Haunted City. If each of the world’s ethnicities – from every country, region, island, religion or how ever else you want to separate and categorize them – have their own supernatural beliefs, then what happens when those beliefs come together?
The tag line says, “What if the greatest city in human history…was the biggest haunted house in the world?” There is no end to what this series could do. Tom is our guide so far, we will discover the Haunted City as he does, but he is not the star of the book. With promises ranging from Dutch Pilgrims to werewolves and everything in between, there may be a million stories in this mysterious city.
Do these beings influence each other? Do they have powers or goals? Just how powerful are they? There is a quick peak at how powerful these things can be when it is revealed that within this book, Demons are to blame for bad things. If this city causes the Son of Sam to come about, then what else has happened? Everything from 9/11 to the Yankees winning a World Series is fodder for this book.
Its an exciting tale from Aspen Comics and this is just a 0 issue preview. So exciting I have already had to set down this issue that I tried out in order to head back over to the comic book store for issue #1.
