Incredible Hulk #4 Review.

From Marvel Comics, Jason Aaron, Whilce Portacio, Allen Martinez and Rick Ketcham.

Its another crazy issue on the Hulk’s latest journey.  To recap, the Hulk and Bruce Banner have been separated and are now at war with each other, with Banner in the bad guy role.

One of my favorite things in this title is seeing the Hulked out versions of animals.  The green tiger (oohhh, Green Tiger, that could work) looks bad ass as all hell.  Giant bugs and snakes and monkeys fill out the zoo.  If I had a good geeky discussion about comics every week with friends (oh the glory days of the 90s, sure it was over inflated, but EVERYONE was talking about it) we would be discussing what animals we want to see green and gamma blasted next.  I’d love to see a whale show up.  Just for the size difference next to Hulk.

The Hulk shows up to stop the weak Banner, but he’s not so weak.  Banner has been testing on himself but he cant recreate the Hulk process within his own body.  However there is still some power.  Banner’s hand (I’m really not sure if it was on his own but I’m mostly sure it was with a glove) knocks the Hulk out on his ass.  Its a stunning scene to see the Hulk on the losing end of the physical power struggle with Banner.

Its a great build up to battle and hopefully soon we’ll find out how the two psyches were unbound.

The only, and its a tiny one, complaint I have is the covers.  The Hulk that is inside, huge, intelligent, barbarian, hairy, is not the same Hulk that’s been on the covers.  I’ll guess its because the one on the cover is “classic Hulk” and that sells books.  But the fact is this crazy warrior Hulk looks better and makes a more intriguing cover model.
