X-Sanction #1 Review.

“A life in paradox.  When yesterday’s tomorrow is today.”  Well that’s not a paradox.  If today is Thursday, yesterday was Wednesday.  If you asked me Wednesday what day is tomorrow I would say Thursday.  I know, I know that’s not the point.  The point is why is Cable taking out the Avengers?   Well read on to find out.

From Marvel Comics, Jeph Loeb, Ed McGuinness, and Dexter Vines.

The story opens with Cap, Falcon, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Red Hulk taking out the Lethal Legion.  The only things we have to worry about here are Cap and Falcon going after Whirlwind.  Cap tells Falcon to stay back because he might not be strong enough to fly through the gale force winds Whirlwind is kicking up.  However, Cap can leap off his motorcycle and throw his shield faster than the Falcon can fly I guess.

Falcon sees something else and goes to investigate.  He gets trapped, Captain America to the rescue and it turns out that Cable has trapped Falcon.  Cap and Cable fight and everything in here makes Cap look like a shitty fighter.  He uses a gun, which isn’t usually done by Steve Rogers.  He gets his shield stuck in the wall and completely ignores Cable to focus on pulling his shield out.  Cap would never take his focus off an opponent.  Cable gets the best of Cap, locks him in a chair and all signs point to (SPOILER ALERT) Cable shooting Captain America in the head and killing him.

What the hell?

Maybe the side story can solve some questions.

Cable died, and Hope watched him die.  Cable wakes up and no one is sure where or when he has appeared.  He runs into his old friend Blaquesmith and we all learn that the Avengers are responsible for Hope’s death, and the destruction of the world because Hope wasn’t there to save it.  Cable starts a mission to timeslide and take out the Avengers, thus saving Hope.

These aren’t our Avengers.  This might even not be our Cable.  This is another earth where Captain America uses a gun and is not the greatest fighter on the planet.  A world where Falcon himself says that only Cap cares about him, so when Cap comes looking for him the rest of the Avengers will come looking for Cap.  Thus implying that these Avengers don’t give a shit about Falcon!

You know what would be interesting?  If this alternate world’s Cap and Falcon were partners.  Partners partners.  The rest of the Avengers don’t care about Falcon because they don’t want someone’s lesser powered boyfriend getting in the way during super being fights.  Not an anti gay, anti black or anti anything story.  Just the very common idea that people start to date someone and want to bring their unqualified other half into a world they cant handle.

Anyways, back to the actual story here.  My guess is that Cable is going through many alternate Earths trying to get to the one with the Avengers that caused all of this.  Eventually he will end up on our Earth, and set up next year’s Avengers vs. X-Men.  A lot of stuff is going to get fucked up along the way.  I’m very curious.  Using alternate Earths and time lines, anything could happen in this book.  Its a really interesting tale and maybe next year’s event will actually have some merit and not just be a sales grab.
