Well this is going to be surprising.
Read on for full review!
The stars of this issue are Michonee and Abraham. Its very interesting because neither of them really have interacted with the other one that much. I mean sure, they have been part of large group scenes but this is definitely their first time together. Abe asks her a question, just to be nice, not actually meaning anything. Small talk they call it. Michonne gives honest answers and opens up because really, why the hell not. What is there to worry about in this world? Will the cool kids make fun of her? There are no cool kids left!
They travel, searching for supplies, and kill some zombies good. Its been a while since we’ve seen Michonne cut loose and its stunning. But then the mysterious watcher from the last issue appears. Jesus is here. No, he’s not Jesus Jesus, and he has another name but screw it I’m calling him Jesus from here on. And Jesus kicks ass.
This is Dragon Ball Z plotting. Jokes aside, follow me on this one. We know that Michonne and Abraham are bad ass, and if you forgot here are some new zombie killing pages to remind you. Then when someone new shows up and kicks their asses, that must mean he is an even bigger bad ass! It took a year to beat Freeza? Guess what, Trunks took him out with one shot. Boom, bad ass certified.
Rick comes in, as he is the leader, and a good grey area is established. Is Jesus a bad guy or was he just trying to protect himself? It really does depend on perspective. Jesus wants to form a trading relationship between two of the four communities. Two? Four? Yeah, the Walking Dead world just opened up.
Fans have been wondering what will be coming up for the 100th issue of the Walking Dead. And the answer is, anything. There is a society out there. There are hundreds of other stories to be told. There could be communications worldwide, news, even a government.
We’ve been so used to following Rick and company that it never even occurred to me there would be other groups. The Walking Dead west coast, the Walking Dead International, the Walking Dead dark. Take your pick! These other survivors could be good or bad. They could be new or familiar. This major plot twist is so major, the book doesn’t even need the zombies anymore to tell a good story. Seriously, I’m predicting now that at some point within the next year or two longtime readers will have to sit back and really think how long its been since some zombies showed up in the book.
I don’t know how, but I’m more excited than ever by what’s coming next.
