Heart #2 Review.

For those of you that forgot, I loved issue one and have always been a huge fan of everything from Blair Butler.  So what are my feelings on issue two?  Click for more and find out.

Our hero, Rooster, is still telling his origin story and I think that’s the most important word here.  Origin.  Blair has taken the best comic origin and beginning stories of super heroes and brought them into the real world.  There’s the cockiness of early Spider-Man, the driven nature of the Bat, and I’m seeing a lot of early Kitty Pryde.  Welcome to the gym Rooster, hope you survive the experience.

The fights are shown at a blistering pace.  I imagine Kevin Mellon sitting down and given a 5 minute round to complete the art.  The page moves so fast I had to duck a roundhouse.

Rooster is the most exciting new MMA fighter this year.  Where is his E60 special?  Where is his half hour documentary/fight promo?  In every issue I can see him winning or losing a fight.  I expect mistakes, failures and triumphs.  This character, who has only existed in two comics, seems so very human.  The thought of being in public and seeing a man extend his hand to pay for groceries, thus exposing a rooster tattoo, sounds like fact.

I don’t know how I’ll handle the next and final two issues.  I’m rising and falling with Rooster in his quest.  Thankfully this ride is monthly, because I need the 30 day medical suspension to recover from every panel of excitement.
