Avenging Spider-Man #2 Review.

You people know how much I liked this last issue.  Well its still good but somehow it got even better.

Spider-Man and the Red Hulk are still in the bowels of the Earth fighting the new species and rulers of the Moloids.  Its a fine comic and there’s a lot of great J Jonah Jameson stuff.  Seriously, this is some of the best JJJ stuff I’ve ever seen.  But what really puts this comic over the edge into greatness is this… its the best written Spider-Man in years.  Years!

Look at this exchange between Spidey and Red Hulk:

“We’re Avengers, it doesn’t get to be that simple.  Think you can be a hero without being told to?”

“What if I don’t play along, kid?  You think you can handle whatever did this all by yourself?”

“No I don’t. But that’s not going to stop me.”

THAT is what makes a hero!  Our fearless wall crawler is going to a fight he knows he will lose — because its the right thing to do!  When everything says run away, he runs to the fight.  Sure other heroes are inspired by Superman and Captain America, but when have you ever seen a hero inspired by Spider-Man?

Yeah, its going to be great to see Red Hulk beat up some underground monsters.   And the book is drawn beautifully.  But the big thing here is seeing Spider-Man written as one of the greatest heroes of all time.  Awesome.
