This issue focuses on Daniel and his ridiculously rich friend Tom.  The two of them were the beginnings of a group that was going to study the other side.  Things changed, life happened, and they grew apart.  We’re also introduced to Samantha in the present day and it turns out she was a part of this same group.  Samantha is caught up in a freak tornado, that we can probably guarantee is paranormal in origin in this book.  Her story is only beginning as her former friends Daniel and Tom take a huge turn in their journey.

The two men fly to Hiroshima to investigate the destruction from last issue.  Money is spent, angry soldiers are averted and then, an army of ghosts walk through.  Holy crap.

In another scene our friend Corporal Nunez is visited by something in the middle of the night.  Maybe the devil, maybe a demon, maybe lots of things but definitely evil.  Then the most original looking dangerous nasty and stunning visual designs on henchmen in a long time comes out.  The Chain Gang Green (they are wrapped up in chains, they are a group, and their eyes glow green, thus my moniker for them).  These monsters join previous comic book creations like Isz from The Maxx or the Darklings from The Darkness.  So scary you want to look away but so original you have to stare at them.  Brilliant!

In a comic world where zombies are dangerously overdone seeing a huge world encompassing ghost story is a revelation.  That may be too perfect a word choice, as this book feels like its leading up to end times.

There is a lot being set up here, and I understand if some of you want to wait for the trade.  But I’m excited to get just enough of the story so I then spend too much time debating and wondering what is coming next.  Its obvious that this is a large story and no character is introduced on a whim.  Everyone has a role to play and is necessary for the greater story.  Its a great well crafted comic and a rarity of a comic that things many issues ahead and not just the next one.

Much recommended.
