So you have realized that there is a huge geek on your Christmas list and you don’t have a clue what to buy him/her. It is tough I know. We geeks are collectors and need to have things now. When? NOW!!! You might find a perfect gift but unless that gift came out on December 24th and your geek is in a full body cast and can neither walk to a store nor click online to order, there is no guarantee that they don’t already have the item.
That’s why I’m here to give you lots of suggestions. I’ll give you one idea, and then more that spring forth from it. If you know your geek likes one thing, then maybe they will love the other gift ideas listed underneath.
We’ll start with the biggest property in all of geek-dom. The Walking Dead.
What you can buy:
The Walking Dead Season One.
All versions HERE
You can find the bare bones set for $16 or the 3 disc pretty BluRay set for $28. Or reverse it and get the bare bones on BluRay and the pretty set on regular DVD. Four options for your zombie fan!
But what if they have it, or are watching season one on Netflix Watch Instantly? Well then have you tried the graphic novels?
All versions of the GN HERE.
I was talking with a friend on Facebook last night who loves the show but doesn’t know whether or not to attempt the world of comics. I’ll tell you all as I told him, yes. The Walking Dead is the best comic book today, month in and month out. But the comic is 90 some issues in, do I expect you to buy the most recent issue? No. The title starts off very simply and does an amazing job of bringing the reader along with every twist and turn. The characters now nearly 100 issues in are unrecognizable compared to issue one, but if you read from the first and join them on this journey then you understand and change with them. Buy the first volume and follow along at home. You have many options.
Buy the first issue. The Walking Dead is re-releasing everything in a weekly format. One issue will only set you back $3 .
Buy the first paperback graphic novel. Down to $6 and you have no excuse for not being able to spend that little amount on the biggest story in the world right now.
Buy the hardcover for $23. It looks prettier on the shelf, and actually contains the first two paperback collections.
Or go all out and get the compendium which collects the first 50 issues. Its a brick, and it ends with the most dramatic scenes ever in comics. Down to $31 which is less than a dollar an issue.
But maybe they’re like me, and they already own all the issues, then what?
Walking Dead action figures ($16-$60).
Four figures have been released, with variant editions. Rick, two zombies, and Michonne. Oh you don’t know about Michonne yet if you’re only watching the show do you? Read the books. She is the baddest woman on the planet. Telling you anything else would ruin it.
We’ll be back with more tomorrow. Let me know if you have any ideas as we got 24 more days of this!
