My Top 50 Albums of the Decade!: Part 50 of 50!

The Saga…something something something dark side…something something something complete

1. Drive-By Truckers – Southern Rock Opera (2002)

I might get flack for the choice but I don’t care, the brilliance of this double album is well beyond anything I can ever write about it. This album explores a range of topics through a fictitious band based on the mythology of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Between the relationship between Ronnie VanZant and Neil Young, the plane crash, the duality of the southern thing, this is just an incredible album. The name itself is intriguing, which is why I bought it in a Best Buy one day. It opened me up to the Truckers and I’ve never looked back since. This is twenty songs of brilliance and is definitely worth your time!

Recommended Tracks: “Ronnie & Neil,” “72 (This Highway’s Mean),” “The Southern Thing,” “Zip City,” “Let There Be Rock,” “Women Without Whiskey,” “Plastic Flowers on the Highway,” “Angels and Fuselage”
