Its a big night. The first ever UFC on FOX and that means that Team Hellions has to be there to cover history.
Well not there there. That would have been amazing. Live from Anaheim CA and live on FOX for the first time ever. Damn. I remember when it was shocking to see UFC on Spike. It really is a historic night.
Lot of talking and hype and things like that. Nothing wrong with that. It is a live sporting event, there is bound to be a lot of talking and video packages and hype.
Clay Guida vs. Benson Henderson
Oh, this was taped earlier. No entrances, right into the fight. Benson catches Clay with a punch and then stays on top for a good half minute. Just laying punches into the head, but somehow these punches only assist Clay’s recovery. Sure he took a hard shot to the head. But none of the swings after hit with the same force. Benson sprawls to try to stand but Clay pushes with his calves and the two jockey for position. Clay tires to grasp the leg but both men have good mobility in their legs. We are down to 90 seconds left and back in the center of the Octagon. Neither man seems to have lost anything from their health bars. Guida hits a flying knee and Benson seems to relax for a moment, thinking he has avoided the worst. Then a punch comes in and Guida knocks Henderson loopy. Clay tries to get Benson into a bad postition, but with only 20 seconds left Henderson has great defense and holds Clay off.
End of round one.
Round two. Benson gets in a good shot. Clay goes for the legs, Benson grabs the head and has Clay for only a moment. Back up, down again, and Clay is controlling Henderson’s head. Clay sits up and does a great job of not putting himself into any sort of compromising position. Both men are standing up now, and trade knees into the midsection. Clay tries to circle around to Benson’s back but Benson keeps stuffing it with elbows. Clay throws some knees trying to weaken Henderson. Benson reversals and Clay is up against the chain link. Back into the middle. Clay goes for a spinning back fist and if it connected that would have been the fight. Clay’s momentum takes him to the floor and Henderson comes in on top. Clay tries for a guillotine and the two men roll, exchanging dominance. It stops with Benson on Clay’s back and Guida is just holding on to the final seconds of the round. Clay and Benson take it to the third round.
Round 3
Each man tries for big swings, hoping something catches. Nothing works and Clay ends up putting Henderson on the fence. They rush out from the wall and across to the opposite side. Now Benson has Guida on the cage. They’re off the fence and Clay goes for a big kick. Its too big and Benson catches the leg with his arm then takes Clay down to the mat. Benson is on top and Clay tries to pop out and scramble back up to his feet. Rolling with each other and Benson ends up on Guida’s back. Benson has to let loose from his triangle mount, he pops his ankle out and that’s all it takes to get Clay to stand up again. Battle for dominance again and Clay ends up on top with a nasty choke hold. Henderson rolls to free his arm and they’re both standing exchanging blows. They’re swinging with everything but its not enough and the fight goes to the referees!
Benson Henderson wins by decision.
Damn that was a great fight. If you’re a novice to MMA and the UFC, this fight was nothing but nonstop action and excitement from the start. I would be excited to have “discovered” this “new” sport and ready to watch the next PPV and every single showing on FOX. Great opener to the show.
Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos
Both men are near equal in stats. Cain is the current UFC Heavyweight champion. Dos Santos comes over top with a huge right hand. He jumps onto Cain and starts punching down. Its only seconds into the fight. Big John leaps down and pulls Junior away. Holy shit! That’s all and we have a new UFC champion on the first ever FOX airing. There’s your history bitches!
Wow. Not even a full minute of a fight. At least I don’t think it was, it went so fast I didn’t even see a time.
Oohh! It ended so fast we’re getting some under card fights!
Damarques Johnson vs. Clay Harvison
Welterweight bout. Both men are alumni from The Ultimate Fighter.
Well that was fast as well. Both men are feeling each other out. Not too much excitement going on yet. Then out of no where Johnson lands a solid punch. Clay is down for good. Johnson celebrates, realizes the referee has not called anything yet, and lands one more punch to the head just to make sure.
Damn that was impressive.
