Its another Tuesday and that means another round of new DVD releases. Here’s a handful of the titles I’m most excited about today. As always, support local over Amazon or WalMart. Go to your nearest cool mom and pop store, or order online from an independent. Why do I find this so important every week? Think back to your childhood. Do you have nostalgic memories of WalMart or of the corner grocery store that’s no longer there? I thought so.
Anyways, click to read this week’s picks!
Captain America: The First Avenger
And with this release we have all of the summer’s comic book movies out on DVD. Its time to rewatch them all multiple times and decide who is the best. I’m leaning towards First Class currently but damn was Cap a great movie. His character growth may be the best ever done in a super hero film. The Red Skull looks bad ass every moment on screen. The comedy and love story are nice and under stated. Am I purposely trying to change my own mind here?
Attack the Block
The Brits do low budget brilliant sci fi better than any one else. If you doubt it sit your wanker ass down to watch this film and get learned. I loved Captain America but this one might be my favorite release of the week.
WWE’s Greatest Rivalries Shawn vs. Bret
It has been 14 years since the Montreal screwjob, and people are still making a fortune off of it. I do believe that this is the first time that all of the participants were given the opportunity to speak their minds at the same place on the same DVD produced within the same time frame. Which means that while this story has been rehashed multiple times, its going to be new and fresh in this format.
A Serbian Film (Blu Ray)
For the people who thought Human Centipede comes the next film in the “can you handle this” contest. I cant. If you can, I don’t know if I’d want to shake your hand or turn you into the police.
Wrong Turn 4 Bloody Beginnings
No Eliza Dushku. However, the fourth movie in the franchise still has all the mutant inbred serial killer action you’ve come to know and love.
Brady’s Go Bowling
In a bygone era, TV game shows featured celebrities. No, these were actual game shows. Not reality shows with some sort of contest attached to it. One of the classic forms of celebrity competition was the bowling game. This one features the Brady kids in a ten frame dance to the death! OK, I might be exaggerating a bit.
Maria’s B Movie Mayhem: Voodoo Dolls/Madonna
This series is getting tougher and tougher to find as time goes on. Anyways, former WWE Diva and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Maria is your new horror host. So if you like cheap horror movies, goofy hosts, and have a curiosity for what’s happening to former WWE employees, this series is for you.
Viva La Lucha Extreme Revolution
You want to see some great shady marketing? This DVD stars El Hijo De Rey Mysterio. Which would not be the same Rey Mysterio that you know and love from the last 10 or so years in WWE. Remember kids, if you want to avoid a lawsuit for coping intellectual properties, use a different language. All of that being said though, there is some fun lucha action on this DVD and its worth picking up if you can find it.
