Game Changing Part 5.

It the last day of this theme.  I want to thank so so many of you for your support and commitment to well informed intelligent debate.  Not only here, but sites around the interwebs.  On the last day of these columns looking at the changes new COO Triple H may enact I want to point out something you may have missed.

Where the hell has the anonymous GM been?

Ever since Hunter stepped into power (to recap, yes it is only a story line and Vince is in charge.  However, all reports and rumors say that Hunter takes over for real by next year’s WrestleMania) that annoying sound has been missing.  No!  Not Michael Cole’s brutal heel work.  The shrill tone that symbolizes a new email has come in on a screen that looks like its stuck on a screen saver.  What does it all mean?

One possibility is that Triple H will keep plot consistency and admit that he has been the anonymous GM all along.  Sure, it may not make perfect sense, and there may be times when the content of the emails don’t fit into Hunter’s usual motivations.  We can paint over that with the wide brush of Helmsley purposely throwing out red herrings.

The initial reason for the hidden general manager was that if his/her identity was unknown then there would be no danger of bribery or physical threats.  Well neither of these things is an issue anymore.  Hunter damn sure has enough money, and a marriage that is not worth damaging in any way.  So (within the realms of plot and story) there is no bribe reason to sway Triple H towards granting title shots or rematches.  Also, it is the Game after all.  He’s made a career out of looking strong against all opponents.  This wasn’t that long ago either.  Like, last year.  Therefore, he should in theory still be able to kick anyone’s ass that may threaten him.  Years from now, sure, he should not look as strong as the guys you’re trying to build up as BAMFs.  (Just discovered that term.  Giving it a try.)

More than likely though this dangling plot thread will join the ranks of “Who is the Black Scorpion” and “Who is in the limo” in the annals of unresolved mysteries.  With any luck Hunter will come out and let us know that he not only sent the emails, but he also raised the briefcase above the ring oh so many years ago.

Yes, there is a lot in wrestling that can be debated on.  One person’s favorite is another’s foil.  I know its only been a couple weeks, but this is where, years from now, people will point and say this is when it started to change.  Its too soon to know whether that’s for better or worse.  But I think getting rid of that awful podium and laptop is a damn good start.
