Night of Champions, in pictures

I know this is a week late, but I was having some computer problems.  I was lucky enough to get 5th row seats to Night of Champions and it was an amazing time!  There really is nothing better (to me) then a live wrestling event.  The energy is at a peak, and when you’re as close as I was you can almost feel each hit.  Enjoy the pictures, but please don’t take them for your own use without permission and giving me proper credit!  And if you’re interested you can be my “fan” on facebook, just search Lindsey Guile Fine Art Photography.

Miz & Truth vs Air Boom

I enjoyed this match a lot.  I have always been a Kofi fan since I saw him in my first live event in Elmira.  I like what high-flyers bring to the ring and hope that Kofi and Evan Bourne can start to fill the very large shoes left behind by Jeff Hardy.  I also really like the team of Miz and R Truth.  Talk about super heels, with a lot of charisma.  They’re great characters that you love to hate, and Air Boom could take notes on the character development from them.

Cody Rhodes vs Ted Dibiase

I have to be honest here, this match bored me completely, well other then when I got to try on a paper bag that someone near me received.  Cody’s character is a really bad representation of a drunken Phantom of the Opera and Ted….I don’t see much of a character right now.  I think they’re both decent wrestlers, but are not getting the kind of writing and character development they should.

Christian and Shameus

Dear Christian, when did you get so damn whiny?  WAH WAH WAH.  I think he would make a better heel if he didn’t cry so much.  I understand the angle but it is getting old.  Turning Shameus face is really interesting as I thought he made a pretty good bad guy (and realistic nemesis for Cena last year)  and I will be tuning in to see how he play out.  I do hope he gets a chance at a Championship soon, they built him fast and then he fizzled even faster, and that seems a bit of a shame for someone who I consider a damn good wrestler.

Dolph Ziggler vs Alex Riley vs John Morrison vs Jack Swagger

I think Morrison had a great showing in this match and I get frustrated with the writers who have him SO CLOSE to winning something and then pull back.  I don’t really understand the yo-yo story lines with Morrison but if I was him I would be close to snapping.  He’s got technique, puts on a hell of a show, but needs more charisma in terms of talking (and is obviously one of my favorite wrestlers judging by the amount of pictures I have of him, ha!).  I think Swagger’s story with Vicki and Dolph is going to take him good places, and I like how they’ve built Alex Riley up (I would like to see him against the Miz another time or two, perhaps as a tag team).  Dolph bores me.

Beth Phoenix vs Kelly Kelly

This match shocked me, as I thought Beth would come out victorious.  I do like the current storyline of women wrestlers vs barbie dolls.  I enjoyed a post on here last week talking about women’s wrestling, and in my opinion the WWE really should get away from employing purely cute girls and get actual wrestlers here.  I think Beth is a great start, and I don’t mind Kelly so much.  I look forward to when Karma comes back, she sent chills up my spine.  I do wish though the stereotype of girl hate was not ALWAYS the story for the Divas.  And on a weird note I wish Beth would go back to her pants costume–the skirt seems to represent everything she is supposed to be fighting against.  I liked that she didn’t look or dress like all of the other Divas…

Randy Orton vs Mark Henry (World’s Strongest Man)

There was a post on here last week about the invincibility of Cena, and I think with Orton there is also the risk, although he doesn’t have the rabid fan base that Cena does.  I am really enjoying the pissed off Mark Henry.  This is a big man (makes me miss the Big Show!) who has been around forever and DESERVES the World Heavyweight Championship.  Much like the Incredible Hulk when WSM gets pissed you run away as fast as you can.  I had a WSM sign, and was beyond excited when he won.  I was surprised that Orton wasn’t as smooth as he usually is, that he never seemed to have any control in the match, which I would have liked to have seen more of.  Otherwise, amazing match.

Alberto Del Rio vs John Cena

This match was difficult to get excited about because you KNEW Cena would win.  De Rio has been such a weenie on RAW that it was expected.  Other then getting some good pics, and getting to chant “Cena Sucks” this match was a little bland.  Cena needs a nemesis (Shameus, The NEXUS…all decent for awhile) that can actually beat him.  And then he needs to go on vacation for awhile and let someone else step up for a bit.  My hope is at Wrestlemania that the Rock gives him a good beat down.  Cena is like cotton candy–your first bite is sweet and sugary, and then it gets to be too much after awhile.  I like the guy, but he’s god-like now, and that is not good for the long term viewers.

CM Punk vs Triple H

Easily my favorite match of the night.  When the theme music hit for both wrestlers I couldn’t help but rock out.  Where Punk has been going, taking on the “man”, the play of HHH being both that “man” and wrestler (getting in over his head?)–the whole juxtaposition of the characters is fantastic.  Lots of talking topped by even more insane action, this is by far my favorite story right now.   Punk and HHH really moved around the stadium, coming not that far from me.  When Miz and Truth came I was one of the people yelling “FUCKING SERIOUSLY?” but it didn’t the go the way the WWE tend to lets it (by ending the match completely lamely), and when Kevin Nash came in everything, including the crowd, got more frenzied.  When you have a great match like this (and I figured HHH owed the fans a good match after a mediocre match at WM) it is pretty much like both HHH and Punk were winners.  They beat the hell out of each other, and intruders, and gave the fans something to really talk about.

And finally, a picture of me (not from  my seat, but  good shot of the ring before the event)

There will eventually be more pictures on my fan page, it takes awhile to get watermarks on and the pictures edited.  Stay tuned!
