This is a huge week for DVDs.  TV seasons are coming out in anticipation of the new seasons.  Horror is starting its trickle towards October.  Plus the summer movies are on their way into your home.  I’ve managed to narrow down the 100s of releases this week down to  my best of the best.  Still a lot missing here though.  Remember to go to shops to find other titles every week.  Not WalMart, or Target or any of them.  Good old fashioned run by real people shops.  Maybe with a “p-e” at the end of that.  As always we pick an independent store for you to spend your money at, and its http://scarecrow.com   Go to Scarecrow Video for the titles that those places don’t have.  Because they’re not cool enough.

Thor

A far better movie than my younger self would have ever imagined.  Chris Hemsworth becomes a star, the movie is actually well written.  The humor isn’t painful and added without meaning.  Plus, as part of the overall Avengers arc of films this adds many layers to the Marvel movie mythos.  Like a thick Asgardian lasagna.

Star Wars

Despite all of the (justified) complaints are you going to be able to resist buying this today?  Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

The Big Bang Theory The Complete Fourth Season

A fair season, some duds but mostly very funny episodes.  Then we get that shocking ending.  Oh, I cant wait to see where they go in the new season.  Also, for those of you who complain about things being added on to your favorite shows… the addition of two other women to the cast is one of the greatest moves ever done in TV history.  Amy and Bernadette add so much humor and heart to the series that I forget they weren’t there from the beginning.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Manos The  Hands of Fate

One, there is no such thing as a bad episode of MST3K.  Two, every episode is some of the funniest jokes and writing to have ever been crafted in all of civilization.  Three, this episode is even better than all of that!  Get your own hands of fate on this 2 disc set.

Marvel Knights Thor & Loki Blood Brothers

I haven’t been able to get my hands on this yet, but its a must buy as soon as I find it.  No, they aren’t all perfect.  But every single one of these Marvel and DC direct to DVD animated movies is a treasure.

Your usual wrestling and MMA releases for the week.  SummerSlam was alright. UFC wasn’t bad.  Both main events didn’t match up to the previous ones.  And I have no idea what the Lucha title is, but how can anyone pass up a new Lucha DVD?

C.O.P.S. Volume 2

Not only do their action figures shoot caps.  They’re also fighting crime.  In a future time!  A great and very under rated 1980s cartoon all about cops and crooks in the future.  A very simple concept gone SciFi.
