For those of you that don’t know of Chikara, imagine a comic book themed wrestling promotion.  Yeah, sounds fucking awesome doesn’t it?  It is awesome.  Because this site isn’t geeky enough I’m going to review numerous YouTube wrestling shows as well.  First up, the newest episode of Chikara.

Gavin is your host and we look at video from Creatures of the Tar Swamp.  Its Sara Del Rey vs. Toshie Uematsu.

Sara rips off Toshie’s Chikara shirt and plays Ferdinand the Bull with the T.  I’ve seen Del Rey numerous times and she does usually play the heel, however thanks to your bigger USA wrestling promotions we fans have been trained to hate the foreigner.  Del Rey gets herself over as heel by desecrating the Chikara emblem.  Then Toshie rescues the shirt and politely folds it up with honor.  Roles established!

Toshie is a former WCW Women’s Cruiserweight champion.  Wow, who remembers that title even existing?

The story becomes Sara is just too damn strong to put down.  Not big, not fat, but a Wrestler and this is her ring.  She does every schoolyard bully technique until Toshie has had enough.  Toshie shows off her speed and a willingness to try anything to get something going in the match.  Toshie climbs the ropes but Del Rey answers with a rolling boot.  Toshie tries to reverse with a victory roll but its not enough.

Both women go all or nothing.  Every move is a strong move, no more set ups.  Every punch, kick, suplex, reversal everything is a potential match finisher.  Its a high spot match without having the high spot stigma.  The story is that even though Sara is stronger nothing she does can keep Toshie down.  The powerbomb is teased numerous times and Del Rey finally hits it… Only for it to not be enough!  Even that cant keep Toshie down.  Sara finally hits the Royal Butterfly and there is no doubt that this match is now over.

Dominating work by Del Rey but I’m already hip deep in finding more matches starring Toshie Uematsu.
