Once again its time to look at the newest cool geeky releases of the week. They may be DVD or Blu Ray or reissues or the 43rd edition of Evil Dead. But if its something I’m excited about it will be here each and every week.
First of all, I want to direct you to a cool DVD shop. Scarecrow Video in Seattle WA was suggested by the Head Geek himself Harry Knowles. Boasting over 110,000 titles and more floor space than your favorite mall movie stores combined, Scarecrow should be added to your geek destination bucket list. The store started in 1988 when it signed up its first 5 customers. Four of them are still signed up. Are you kidding me?! Name another store that can brag about over 20 years of customer loyalty. I’ve never even been to the store (or to Seattle) and I’m already sold on this place.
Now I’m not in a position to tell you that the titles I’ll suggest are guaranteed in stock but I’m sure if anything isn’t the staff at Scarecrow will get hold of it for you thankyouverymuch.
Check out their website http://www.scarecrow.com/index.php search the stock and support indy shops!
On to this week’s releases.
Priest
I missed this in theater because it came and went so quickly. Based, kind of, on a fairly good manga this is a war with priests and vampires and conspiracies abound. Fun little action movie. But if you really want a mind job go find the Priest movie from 1994.
Batman Brave and the Bold Season Two Part One
Flying under the radar of great DC cartoons comes the next collection of Brave and the Bold. The show takes elements from all 70 years of DC and breaks it down to what matters. No overblown continuity, just good stories. We know Batman is awesome but this love letter to comics makes you realize the importance of characters like Aquaman and Bat Mite.
Medium Raw
Mostly here because it stars current WWE Superstar Christian and former star Test. Oh its also a screwy horror movie, so for some of you double the reason to pick it up.
Monster Bug Wars
Using nature footage and CGI this show looks at the violence murder and mayhem that exists beneath our feet everyday. Rather screwed up idea for a show but entertaining and educational!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Complete Season 9
About as in sequence as these DVDs are going to get. Quite a lot of episodes aren’t where they should be and the different volumes are taking forever to come out. But we only need one more and at least this part of TMNT history will be complete.
WWE Money in the Bank 2011
If you don’t already have this or already want it then I don’t know what you’re doing on this wrestling and comics blog. The night CM Punk changed WWE forever.
Death Stop Holocaust
Your requisite fucked up horror film of the week. You know, other than the one I mentioned earlier.
Idiots and Angels
Short animated film about angels, demons, choices, God, and other more serious topics. If you’re jonesing for a mind job this week grab your favorite mind alterer and fire this up.
Elvira’s Movie Macabre: The Brain That Wouldn’t Die/The Manster
Elvira’s Movie Macabre: The Terror/Eegah
I’m starting to get into the joy and history that is horror movie hosts and there’s none that come, ahem, bigger than Elvira. The Manster is one of the worst movies I’ve ever sat through. Even with Elvira walking me through it its an excruciating movie. Eegah is one of the most fun horrible movies you’ll have the pleasure of watching.
